Panic Button

Anyone else have this happen? I was waxing the front end and bent down right by the front grill when the horn started going like crazy right in my ear. The panic button got pressed by accident in my pocket. OUCH! Same thing happened again another time. The red panic button is not recessed on this one like other cars I have had, and also the horn does not stop until you press it again. Minor complaint, but annoying when it happens. Mine came with a Visteon model 41848 key chain remote.

Yup. I keep setting it off in the garage 30 feet away while I sit down in my home-office with the keys in my pocket. Mazda has been using this remote for a few years now so I guess not enough people have complained.

I think your pants are too tight :p

The only time mine goes off is when I mistakenly press it instead of the LOCK button :p

This same thing used to happen to me with my Durango. It is most entertaning when the entire apartment complex is outside to laugh at you lol.

I had this happen all the time with my Nissan Frontier pickup remote. I finally took the remote apart and disabled the panic button! So far I haven't felt the need to do this with the 8's remote.

on the subject of remotes and the alarm, can you lock the doors with the remote while the car is on? there are times in the cold winter morning i'd like to go outside, warm up the car, and lock the doors behind me with the remote but i have yet to test this out

Remote....

That is my main gripe with the remote system, I get to the 7-11 store, and don't want to shut it off cold, but the remote won't lock the doors for me, because the key is in.
My Acura could be left running, doors locked, and if someone touches it when I'm in the store I can hit the 'panic' option to scare them off.
Guess I will have to live with the way it is....

Ya happens to me too!!!

Well actually it doesnt ..........but my GF gets pissed off at me sometimes and she gets her hands on my spare key set and sets off my alarm and drives off ...... shiesh.

I've had this happen a few times even without the key fob. Turns out the guys who installed my aftermarket alarm are a buch of idiots, so every once in a while my Clifford alarm sets off the car's alarm.

Good news / bad news: if you unlock the car using the key (turn the key counter-clockwise in the lock on the driver's door), it will hit the alarm disable switch for the factory alarm. Good news because I don't need to keep two key fobs with me. Bad news because if you don't have an aftermarket alarm, anybody can jam a screwdriver in your key hole and yank, which will disable your alarm.

tried locking the doors with the remote and car running last night and it would not work. ill try when i get home tonight to see if you can lock them manually and remotly unlock them when car is running.

Well, I know for a fact that the doors will not lock with the key in the ignition with the car NOT running... and I just got this from the manual (about the keyless entry system):

• The system doesn’t operate when
the key is in the ignition switch.
• Doors cannot be locked by pressing
the LOCK button while any other
door is open. The hazard warning
lights will also not flash.
