Painted front list?

How do you guys get this front list in same color as car? Do you have to order a complete new bumper or is it seperated some way? Or just painting it? Sorry if it's a stupid question. Here's a picture. Beware of mad paintzorzkillz.

you can take it off and paint it.

RIWWP 10-20-2008 10:39 AM

I think you are referring to the front lip. The factory one is part of the appearance package (see my avatar for the difference to the picture you posted). It is a separate piece, and your dealer should be able to order it, though you may have to take it somewhere else to get it painted if they can't order it pre-painted.

Ryoma-kun 10-20-2008 10:53 AM

I see, I'll ask them.

dozer 10-20-2008 11:27 AM

yeah its a lip kit you get from the dealership, part of the appearance package

DARK R3 10-20-2008 07:19 PM

FRONT LIST? You mean LIP?

Renesis07 10-20-2008 08:01 PM

Would it be hard to paint the front piece, just curious for myself....

Yes and no.

Yes, it would be easy to paint it - it's just a flimsy piece of plastic that can easily be removed using nothing more than the stock jack and a screwdriver.

No, it wouldn't be easy to paint - it's just a flimsy piece of plastic, which means it would be hard to find the right color paint, and the right quality of paint to not drip or fade. However, being flimsy and all, after all that hard work the slightst little bend and your clearcoat/paint is going to violently splinter and crack. Plus, even if you did manage to match the paint up and put a decent layer of clear coat over it, the piece sits under the engine, and inches from the road, which means you're going to drip fluids all over it, and road debris is going to chip the hell out of it.

But I'm just guessing; for all I know it could look great with minimal effort and last a damn long time. If you have the cash and time to spare, just give it a try. Worst case scenario it looks like crap and fades right away, in which case you buy a $2 can of paint remover, spend a few minutes wiping it all off, and all is well again.

im pretty sure you could use spraypaint and it would come out fine. the problem would be colormatching. i have a BB so i might try it. i plan to eventually paint every godforsaken piece of plastic on the exterior. obviously not all with spraypaint, but i dont think it would matter for this piece.

get a rotary accent or the mazdaspeed lip

Spoolin8 10-21-2008 10:46 PM

so does that one currently just unscrew and if you got the appearance lip you just pop that one in its place? For the OP i have done alot of paint work and Momentum is right, it will last for a good month or so if done properly but you are better off just buying the appearance lip if it does indeed just bolt right on.

Renesis07 01-05-2009 01:46 PM

piece of cake to put the rotary accent on. a little two-sided tape and you're good to go. i believe there might be two small screws but i didn't use those for mine since i lost them when i went to powdercoat them bronze.
