Oxygen Sensor?? might be the reason my motor went??
 

Ok just got word the new engine is in my car, which was replaced under the 8yr 100k warrenty on the motor.
Im being told the Oxygen sensor was bad and may have been the reason the motor went, they are not sure. There telling me it has to be replaced and Im wondering if anyone has any info for me on this?
Its going to cost me out of pocket $450.00 which to me is nothing compared to if I had to pay for a new motor! Ill take it lol.

Im wondering more about info on this sensor and has anyone else been told anything like this when having there motor replaced? (rebuilt)

You are being lied to and the $450 to change the sensor is a rip off. A bad sensor will not cause an engine to fail, you also will get a CEL long before anything would happen. Find out which sensor is bad, there is a front & rear. Buy it yourself and give it to them to install while they have the car. it will take all of 5 minutes.

they're definitely trying to rip you off if they're charging you 450 for an o2 sensor.

like expo said, Bad front oxygen sensor will not kill your engine "directly", the ECU use it for closed loop operation which does "not" happen all that often. it might be faulty and cause your ECU to be way too lean = hot melty CAT = clogged exhaust = over heat = shorter engine life, but again this does not happen overnight and you should get a CEL about something is wrong (lean condition, bad O2 sensor code, etc)



450 bux to replace O2 sensor (doesn't matter front or rear) is just highway robbery. get the sensor and replace yourself, go out and have a really nice dinner with your loved one and you still have probably 1-200 bux left in your pocket.

if you need to get O2 Sensor, get NGK, Denso's part is wrong and you will be like "wtf is this"

the front one is the hard one to replace, and the only one that could cause damage to the motor, but without it the car wouldn't run right it would be in limp mode essentially.

The rear one is just for emissions to check the cat, it's unnecessary and just causes a CEL with no repercussions and it's also one you can replace yourself fairly easily.

For $450, buy and accessport and delete the cel code for the rear o2.

Car will run like normal without front O2 sensor. it will not build any fuel trim plus a check engine light, that's about it. Car will use default values. only good for racing.

for street use, you need the Front O2 sensor,

the rear one is useless just like you said, its there to check CAT's efficiency.
