Overheating

Hey guys,

Last night, i had a problem with my 8, i was driving home and the car started to overheat. I was able to put antifreeze and then i was able to drive to the dealership without it overheating again. I did some research and spoke with 2 mechanics who both agreed that i needed to replace the thermostat. That is what i told mazda to do. My car has about 80k on it. Can you guys give anymore insist on any potential problems? Thanks in advance.

Thermostats fail. They can also be unpredictable as they die. Good that you replaced it before any damage was done.

At 80k miles you should be thinking about replacing hoses and belts.

Water pump too!

do it all then your good for another 80 k

Your lucky you didn't kill your motor.

my first thought is that if you had to add antifreeze, either the engine was leaking antifreeze and it ran low and the engine began to overheat...or a coolant seal has failed around one of the housings and your engine is now consuming coolant. a faulty thermostat will not cause you to have to add antifreeze.
