Overfilled Oil Tank
 

Alright guys i fucked up. After i made a 2 hour 30 min drive back to my hometown, i decided it was time to top my oil off. I parked my car on the side of the road at my house which isn't properly level at all. I checked the dipstick and it was 1 dot below the "full" dot. Which means half a quart/litre. I poured as much and checked the dipstick several times and the reading kept coming out around 2 cm above the full line. Im afraid to turn my car on and repark it to drain the oil but my question is, how much harm will i do to my car and also will it do any damage to leave the oil tank overfilled as long as it isn't turned on? Because it is insanely dark outside and i can't see. Even with my flashlight

Help please guys asap. And much appreciated. ..

it's not all that terrible, dealerships overfill our cars all the time.
you'll be safe starting it.
worst case scenario some of it comes back up and enters your air filter but that's only if you run the car a lot.

If you're truly concerned, turn it on, move it somewhere so you can drain some of the oil out and you'll be fine.

I also wanted to point out it is a S2 R3. I'm extremely paranoid so i don't even want to risk worst case scenario. As soon as there is sun outside tomorrow morning i'm going to drain asap. I just want to know if it will leak anywhere, damage anything if the car isn't turned on

no, it will not.

No worries, I hear the engine burns oil anyway.. So take it as some preventive fill up. Like Jedi said it'll spit back into the air intake and catch on the filter. It's not like piston engines, it can handle it

+1 This happened to me and the oil literally ate my aftermarket filter. The dealer insisted they didn't do it. Most dealers are douche bags! Op you'll be fine I just wouldn't drive it if at all possible until you drain your oil.

go check it again. it might be correct now.
but if you do run the engine with too much oil, the oil is gonna shot up into the intake and gets sucked down into the engine. worse case the SSV would stuck and you have very poor performance at higher rpm.
also oil can get onto the MAF and causing unstable idle.

I let the new engine oil settle for about 5 minutes rechecked it. It was exactly at the full mark. Then i checked it 3 more times after that and it put itself back at 2 cm above the full mark. I just now bought a dipstick oil siphon pump so i'm gonna go ahead and do this tomorrow morning and then drive for 5-10 minutes and let it set for another 5 and get another reading. Big thanks on everyones input. I've learned a lot about the air filters, maf, and SSV.

Don't sweat it. My dealer REGULARLY fills my crank case up 2 quarts above the full mark. I must have driven 30,000 miles that way. It drives me nuts to do it, but it has never hurt the engine. He even does this when I took my car in to have the motor mount replaced. Why he felt the need to overfill my oil to fix a motor mount, I will never know.

Haze you should just buy a oil catch can to drain all that out for you lol.

I have the opposite problem with my dealer, the one time I took it in for an oil change it came out 3/4 full. Never took it back there.

Tried draining from the oil dipstick which failed miserably. Decided to drive it since it looked like I put less than .5 quart in there. On startup the car lightly shook after 2 min which I assumed it was spurting back up thru the air filter. Experienced no noticeable problems driving for 20 min. I didn't take it above 5.5k rpms so I really can't monitor or gauge high end rpm performance. If it is at all effective it is only temporary correct?
