Check out the Covercraft website. Their comparison chart is mighty helpful!

(And no, I have nothing to do with Covercraft. I've just always bought my car covers from them.)

Use the RX-8 cover. I have used a couple while storing cars for other members and the OEM RX-8 cover is the best. I have an R3 that I have kept covered with one for a few years now.

i used an rx8 cover one winter before i could get my car in the garage. bad mistake, even tied down the wind would move the cover and the license plate window (stupid design) scratched the shit out of my rear bumper

Yeah here the heat and the sun is the main issue, and we get some serious storms. But I never had that problem, I stored Hoss-05's car for about two years, then I used that cover for another 2 years before the stock cover started to fall apart. I just recently got a brand new one here for $50.00 to replace it :)

I also stored Shadycrew31's car using this cover and it it held up for almost two years but he had had one fender and door repainted at some point and those areas is get some damage. But the paint in those areas was always sketchy so I blame a shitty paint job more than the cover since the rest of the car with factory paint was fine.

the cover was fine it was just the plastic window that scratched up my bumper. it was a very cold, snowy, windy winter tho

If you won't be driving it everyday, you can't beat an Outdoor Car Capsule for protection, especially from little critters and moisture. That peace of mind costs money though.

Yeah luckily where I am at, critters are not an issue. That would be a game changer if it were.

steel wool in tail pipe and a good .22=no critters

Unfortunately, the tail pipe isn't the biggest concern with the RX-8, the engine bay/insulation and cabin air filter are. And even a single field mouse can do a lot of damage in a short time. I know. The Car Capsule is the only way I've found to keep critters out of a vehicle stored outdoors.
