Ots Of Problems! Need Help!
 

So i just bought a 2004 rx8 from my local mazda dealer. Car seemed to run fine for a week then problems began to occur. Makes rattling noise from underneath car when idleing. Misfires in second gear (up to 15 times per drive cycle). Feels like it's surging around 4000 rpms. Has really hard time starting also. The dealer told me i need to replace my coil packs and my spark plugs, they said it would cost a 1000 to do. The car has about 39000 miles on it, seems odd to me that the coils and spark plugs would go bad in that short of time. NEED HELP PLEASE! Also heard about all of the problems with the 2004

Bring the car back to ur dealer and start bitching, no way the car works for a week and no good. I think if you buy from Mazda dealer they should cover it for maybe 90 days or something, check ur papers.

dealer told me my warranty expired after 48 months and that they couldnt do anything, wasnt there an engine recall on the 04 8's?

what about talking to mazda directly? would that solve anything as far as replacing stuff?

plugs and wires have been discussed here way too many times. YES you probably do need a new set. (buy plugs online NOT from dealer)

But if it is a mazda dealer they should fix everything for you for free.

he's just got the car, and he's probably running on limited time if you come to think about it...it is at 39k miles. so i don't think he knows what to do. and on top of that, you can't tell a first time car owner from one who already knows the ins-and-outs of someone who has gone to the dealer too many times and knows how to see right thru them of their dirty tricks. its just too hard to tell who's an idiot and who's just honestly in need of a lil help to get started over the internet.

given that, welcome to the club. and bring your car to the dealer and ask many questions...like "why would you sell me a car that needs many things to be fixed while others sell certified pre-owned cars with blah blah amount of checks and will run with no problems?" kinda question.
ask for a free multi-point inspection... as far as i know, some dealers will offer that.

example... if they sold you a car knowing the brakes are bad (liability issue), you can absolutely sue them if you manage to survive a crash. i know this as NO used certified pre-owned car cannot slip by if brake pads are outta spec. so you just might wanna ask them to check to see if anything you might need to know needs to get a fixing and see what you can get away with.

its not like its written in fine print "sold as is" like its some private transaction...is it?

they told me my warranty was expired and that the coils weren't covered anyway. i've never heard of so many problems with a car that has so few miles. dealer can expect a call from a very pissed off customer monday

what month is your '04 technically arrived? if they wanna play that game...why don't you get technical with them too? i'm not sure what mine was...but i think its 4yr/48k miles...??? not sure. so play the game based on your delivery date...

and at all attempts lost, whatever you do,don't let them make the sucker of you.
plugs are heavily marked up at the dealer. so are the coils. i'm also sure the wires cost a pretty penny.

get some magnecor wires...$60-80
plugs- $27each??? or someone with cheaper deals, chime in...i'm only at 5K so...
coils-?? guessing no more than $50 each???

where did they come up with $1k? all marked-up profit.

try your luck with the dealer again on a weekday, and after lunch when things slow down... see if they at least try to accomodate you. and don't give up to easily, you have a serious problem and it should be addressed.

if all else fails, search this forum! many DIY's to help you change everything out in as lil as 30mins.

thanx, ill try that on monday. oh, and i had a tire blow out after 2 weeks and had to change the battery after a month. they sold me a peice of sh*t and they know it. thats why they marked it down $5000

MYBLACK8: what is your purchase price? make that a huge deal if you paid more than bluebook or whatnot. why would you have to pay the dealer's market value if the car was gonna be no better than private party deal?
and i'm sure you can easily whip up a recycler add with something of similar yr/miles/etc for a few grand less... minimum. and probably well taken care of by someone who got tired eventually knowing a rotary is a high maintenence car and selling because they had no time for it anymore...

that seems like a more honest buy than dealer's, i'm sure. don't you think?

ill tell you that when i went to the bank they told me my car was worth 2500 less than what i bought it for.

i'm sure your brakes gotta be close to fucked as well if they're being that cheap.

do me a favor, don't bet your life on it. bring it to a small shop and pay a few bucks for some multi-point check up...and make sure to ask to check whats important in regards to your safety. and have them check the straightness of the frame as well...

just get someone else's opinion on your car first. it beats going to the dealer having little knowledge of your car...

if your tire was down to the sensor, you can bet your ass you should've gotten free tires.

the car has aftermarket body kit, aftermarket intake. al the upgrades, thats why i think whoever had it before me knew it was about to go bad and got rid of it. i mean who would do all of that stuff to a car and invest that kind of money and turn around and sell it. im takin it to one of my buddys to see what he thinks. also found water in oil? dealer replaced dipstick and thats it. said it was normal?

j/k... but seriously though, a modded car is hardly worth what they've invested in...only due to people usually just waste money on mods then actually putting it into improvements and maintenence.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS have a car inspected and multi-point checked if its outta warranty. or if buying from a private party.

try to score a oem box when one becomes available. it may be the cause of your surge problems...but don't know and can't tell without the actual physical car.

I haven't been a member here very long. However, it is my belief that this forum is a haven for people with ill-intent on destroying the reputation of the RX8. Sure, there have been some issues with the 8s, which is why I've done an extensive research before deciding to purchase one. But, from the impression that a casual visitor/observor might make of the RX8 by threads here, one would think the 8 is the least reliable car in the world. And I believe there are people who are willfully attempting to destroy any positive image that RX8 has on the public.

maybe he was just a screw-up that bought a rotary without knowing about its uniqueness.

rotary's are NOT for everyone. they get fucked up landing in the wrong person's hands... but what car doesn't?

if he's really not gonna take the car with him to the grave... then he shoulda thought about getting a civic.

everybody was a newby once. its just too bad the 8 can't pick their owner's.

a rotary's performance is up to the hands of the owner... now if he chooses to read the owner's manual or not...thats his choice.

maybe if he can't win and gave-up...it'll land in someone's hands with the means to properly maintain it.

For blackrx8 , hmm , obviously he is some new car buyer, probably his first car and 16 yrs old. ANYWAY, he got ripped big time.

He cant even explain in detail about his car's status, all he said was *oh dealer said its not covered n stuff*. Tires were bald, and he got it. if he got a certified Mazda used car from a Mazda dealer he 100% will get some kind of warranty with it as far as I remember. I told him to go find the information but he just didnt, instead, still wasting time trying to get someone else to find the information for him.

You have to give these guys a lesson so he can learn.
