There are people who swear that premixing saves their asses, others say it's not needed.

I would tell people it's better to be over lub'd then not enough!

I was very concerned over getting a reman, but reading through Sleepy-Z's posts has made me feel much better about the quality. It sounds like they do use several new parts in them and haven't even been reusing the old rotors yet?

I'm taking it a little easy through break-in again, but it does feel as good as new. Hopefully this engine will last the life of the car.

Good point, I had wondered about their condition before. I thought they could of been intermittent, possibly when hot, but I hadn't heard anything from the dealer about them testing out as bad or seen them listed on the invoices. I guess if they do have some kind of intermittent problems I'll find out sooner or later. The performance of the old engine had deteriorated so much that it's almost a night and day difference to now.

It all happen last week coming from work. It killed on me at a stop sign. Crank it up car bucking like a bronco hit the gas an was going ultra slow so slow a go kart could of burn my ass. Got it in the yard an it killed on me again won't crank up anymore. But my new engine runs awsome.

Got mine from Paul, over at Mazmart. It was from an 06' with less than 6,000 miles. Runs well.

Ive gone against the grain. I use 5W20, I do not premix, I change the oil every 4000-5000 miles, half the time I forget to top off the oil until the low oil light blinks :eyetwitch . HOWEVER, I have had NEAR ZERO problems with my engine :Eyecrazy: .

I drive like an idiot, I redline an average of 5-10 times per drive. Ive had issues with my transmission leaking fluid, but aside from that, the 8 has been very nice to me since my trans was replaced at 30K.

I am now on 72K, I still have 190 rwhp, I still run mid-high 14's, and I still get 15 mpg average :lol: . In most scenerios, my spirited driving would have broken the car, but with the 8, its kept it healthy.

ONE SATISFIED 04 OWNER HERE

I have done the minimum required maintenance, and my motor only consumes about 1/4 quart of oil every 1,200 miles, and my motor runs better than when my car was new.

This is the first car I've owned that after 3 years feels exactly as good and tight as the day I bought it, and I never thought I'd NOT WANT to get rid of a car after getting bored with it after 2, 3 or 4 years.

I can honestly say that after owning or leasing at least 12 cars, I can honestly see myself being very happy owning this car for another 6-8 years. I typically get very bored with cars quickly.

Not the 8.

your situation kind of sounds like mine... there were a couple of times where i felt the lost of power, but somehow the car drives normal afterwards. hopefully it doesnt come back though...

Mine was doing that shit around 50-60K, I had a bad cat and one day it just lost all power. Plus my coils, plugs, and wires were all bad. Thats what I got for neglecting the 30K mile service :uhh:

You'll find people with very strong opinions either way. Some say premixing is a waste of money, others claim it has supernatural powers.

I started premixing very soon after buying my 8 BN, but I only use 4 to 6 ounces per tank depending on season, instead of 8 ounces. I figure it's pretty cheap insurance and a little extra lube can't hurt. I did notice smoother starts; even if I'm imagining it and it's all a placebo effect, I'll continue premixing. I have an '07 so I'm pretty safe as far as current OMP flashes go.

The only advice I would offer is that if you decide to premix, use Idemitsu and not garden-variety 2-stroke oil with colored dye. That dye is not compatible with our fuel filters and will necessitate early replacement.

Monitor your oil loss per miles driven to make sure the OMP is using it at a proper rate. That in itself might offer enough data to either talk you into premixing or talk you out of it.

Thanks for the advice! I haven't decided yet about the pre-mix, but I will be watching my oil usage closely. My old engine would use very little oil, it would only need topping off after many tanks of gas. I've had vehicles that leaked more oil than it would use, but it did seem to be in line with the other rotaries that I've owned.

I was skeptical about a reman because my 1st engine ran absolutey perfect, but wouldn't idle after installing the latest flash. It had around 70K miles and was having some minor idle issues when I took it in for the flash. Mazda's answer: replace the engine. We were "discussing" who would pay because it was out of warrenty. While they had it waiting for the engine to arrive, I got the notice about 100K warrenty extension for engines. Talk about perfect timing. Anyway, the reman runs freaking strong and idles smooth + getting average of 20 mpg. I'm happy and will probably just keep this car. I would feel much better about supercharging this reman than the original engine with 75K on it.
