For the record I own an 04 rx8 since October 08 and the only problem I had was a CAT failure. Replaced though from the dealership for free (covered from warranty = 70.000 miles).

 

lol. thats true my civic only pushed 92hp to the wheels but the way i had my suspension set up it could corner so fast. people always give the 8 **** for not having enough horse power and the only reason they talk **** is cause they're **** drivers and need the extra power to make up for it.

 

You will notice a great difference then. The 6 MT 8 is rated 232 to the crank but in reality it is 192-196rwhp give or take a few hp. There really isnt much you can do to the NA 8 performance wise besides removing the cat and replace with a mid pipe and one of the many catback options. Also a AEM or Mazdaspeed CAI or Racing beat Revi intake are the best for an intake solution you will only see 5-8hp increase on paper, but you should feel a slight difference in your butt dyno or you should anyway our intake options are very limited and expensive so make the most of it.

Also a Cobb AP and BHR ignition set would be the other perf* mods you will be able to use in order to achieve more tq/hp. After a few thousand you should then notice you went from 195rwhp to 215-220rwhp. Its not much so say you weren't warned. Suspension mods and tires go a long way on this car, make that your first priority.

im not really buying the 8 for speed on the staights im not really into drag racing. and 190+whp is a hell of a lot more than my 92whp civic so yea and im deffitnitly going for suspension upgrades first.

 

04 MT - owned from new in Nov 2003. Now has 85k miles.

Failed Cat replaced under warranty (30k), currently running RP supercat
My cat failure was due to repeated noob floodings. This was before I was on the forums and knew of the problems of not turning the car off cold.

Failed coils replaced under warranty (15k, 30k, and 45k), currently running BHR ignition upgrade. OEM coils just didn't work for me.

I've also upgraded to ONLY using PREMIUM fuel. A lot of my problems disappeared when I switched and figured the $2.00 every fill-up was worth the peace-of-mind.

Also, 10W-30 oil started at 65k miles. I notice about 1-quart of oil used every 2,000 miles (give or take a few miles).

It is a fun and reliable car when taken care of. Enjoy it.

 

Very good. You will notice a hell of a difference with the Rx8 on the twisties stock compared your modified civic, its really night and day. Suspension setup that will do the best would most likely be grabbing a set of Koni Coilovers with either racing beat or progress tech sways and Mazdaspeed front/rear strut bars. Along with a nice set of wheels (volks, advan, bbs, etc..) You should be able to run up to 255,45,18 size tires on stock rims but the best would be 245,45,18 if you choose to stick to the OEM rims for a while. Kumho spt's are probably one the best street tires you can get for the 8.

 

If your parents are the ones putting up the resistance then get another car. There is plenty of time in your life and you'll be able to get what you want at some point.

If you can pay for the car, fuel, insurance, maintenance yourself without their help then tell them to STFU and go find one.

 

i am by no means a rich kid and i never ask my parents for money cause i do have my own job so i can pay the insurance, car, etc. i just care about there input.

 

I bought mine January 04. Six years later still runs like new. Most reliable car I own. 40k miles and no problems. Had all recalls and tsbs done when I took it in for oil changes. Always a fun car to own and drive hard. The car is fast if you know how to drive a high rever. A gotta have car and very affordable used.

04 GT with around 48k. The major issues (if you can call them that) for me: replace OE coils twice, replace plugs twice, decarb the motor. Minor issues has been a few interior pieces needed to be replaced. Sun visor 3 or 4 times, ashtray, and center console pad.

 

I bought my '04 MT new in September of 2004, so I've owned it over 5 years now. Total service at Mazda includes a computer flash update, the spark plugs cleaned and the coils inspected. Other then that, it has been trouble-free.

Oh yeah, I did forget the OEM tires. The Bridgestone Potenza RE040's handle incredible well, but man, do they suck when it comes to road noise. They are now so loud that I can barely hear myself think. I'm looking forward to replacing them with some other brand.

You are on the original tires this whole time? How many miles? May be a record!

 

If you can get a compression test at a Rotory shop........... that would be best.

It costs alot of money for gas and u have to add oil for the Aoex seals all the time.

I suggest you get another Civic

 

Don't forget winter rubbers if you get snow.
