Ok where is the odometer button

I have lost my rx8 book and I want to reset my ecu.. where is the odometer button..I know its a dumb question..thanks

Um....you can reset the TRIP counter by pushing the black button above the display gauges...but it's unlikely you'll be resetting the ECU or odometer with it...

There are 2 buttons above the gauges (one on each side), one switches between A and B trip, and the other, if you hold for a couple seconds, will reset the trip counter.

hold down the right button, turn key on and keep holding until trip meter says test... turn key off. turn key back on and stomp the brake pedal about 20 times until the oil gauge moves and then everythig is reset.

Stomping the brake pedal is only going to clear the KAM memory.

Pushing the trip button while you turn the ignition to on doesn't clear anything but the diagnostic information that is in the guage cluster. As far as I know the fuel trims and other information is only reset with unhooking the battery.

There are two reset procedures, one for the NVRAM and the other for the KAM. Neither will erase your radio presets and such like the method SpooledUp7 posted:

I could be wrong but I have never seen a car that will let you reset the ECU via this method. I had a SVT Focus that would allow the same activities via the trip meter button, but it would not reset the ECU when doing so.

well, i don't have a scananlyzer, so i can't verify it myselft, so i'm just going to have to take mazdamaniac's word for it...and if there was someone's word on the forum i'd trust about this car, his would definately be one of them.

not trying to dig on you, or how much you know about the car. just saying that jeff knows his shit.

^^ Oh I know he does, and is one of the most knowledgable guys on this forum. I just wonder if he or anyone else has tested to make sure that is ready does this, never seen offical documentation about it like the KAM reset process, that is all.

This is indeed the weirdest meathod i've EVER heard of for resetting an ECU

Guess i'm used to the 90's fords where you just unplug that battery and stand on the brake for 10 seconds....hmm

I literally had to search for frickstick ever to find this stupid button. None of the threads I looked at anywhere could tell me where this was. But on a 2004 Mazda RX-8 and maybe others I don't know, the little button is hidden in the dark shadows above the instrument panel. There's one in the dark shadows near gollum on the right and one hidden in the dark shadows near smeagol on the left, pinpoint center above the instrument panel circles trinity.
