Which oil would you recommend?
 

As of right now I am using 5w20 synethic! Can I switch to regular non synethic oil because I heard once you use synethic your not suppose to switch back!

LIES, just try to get out as much as you can. drain, then lift the other side of the other car up and let it drain more.

next time please search, everyone has their own opinion on what to use.

DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC! Its a man-made oil that is not made to burn. The RX-8 has to burn oil to run properly. Why do you think our cars have oil injectors in the rotor housings? Synthetic lasts longer and runs cleaner and is very good for cars with pistons. But not for rotary engines. Regular 5w20 or 5w30 works best for rotary engines. Ask any mazda dealer or certified mazda shop.

Mike... you know that 5w20 regular you are saying to use? I have some bad news... It is at the very least a synthetic blend. Really though it probably doesn't matter what you use, I go with 10w40 but I live in a desert.

All motor oil has antioxidants to keep it from burning, and syn or nonsyn will both burn at over 400 deg f.

So give me some new idea why not to use synthetic!

and i hate to break it to you, but anytime you mention "ask any mazda dealer" in your post, you lose whatever credibility you think you had....

What about race teams? Racing Beat uses and recommends Royal Purple. So, not all rotor shops recommend dino oil like you said. Not taking sides, just pointing out the falseness of you claim.

Also not taking sides, but how many miles do race teams go between engine teardowns and rebuilds? Versus how many miles one expects for normal use of a street car.

RP has a nice page where they explain how their synthetic is fine for rotaries. But I don't recall seeing anything on that page where they back it up by saying they'll stand behind anyone who runs into warranty problems because they used RP.

For what it is worth, I have been in contacts with RP about using their oils and the results that their oils showed in my recent BSL analysis. Their numbers weren't too far off from the norm, but with a premium oil I expected rock solid results. Anyway, I have been working with them sending them oil samples, one at 3000mi mark, and will be sending them a followup sample at 5000mi on the same oil. They aren't charging me anything and seem to be very responsive to my concerns and their claims that their oil will not harm rotary engines.

Man-made oil? so you're telling me the regular engine oil is not man made? wow I didn't know you can use the oil u dig outa the ground inside my engine.

mmm. there are only a couple of mazda dealer who knows what they're doing. Less than 20 in the country.

I've read nearly every post and thread about which oil to use. I've heard all the arguments, and after six years of ownership (with no RX-8 issues to speak of), I feel confident in telling you that this is the only thing that's really important:

Check oil level regularly, add oil if it gets low, and change it when you're supposed to change it.

Synthetic FTW !!

I personally just use the oil from the dealerships. They sell it for around $6 a quart here (surprisingly) and any other oil is around $9 a quart. I just stick to the 5w-20, dont really notice a difference in anything with any other type so i just run what they recommend. they did make the car afterall.
