Oil Cooler/Banjo bolt question(s)
 

I hooked up an oil temperature gauge to the driver's side oil cooler lines, using a banjo bolt to attach the sending unit to the inboard lines.

The needle on the temperature gauge comes off the stop, but never goes above 100 F degrees (even with coolant temperatures from 180-200F). So it appears that its getting power, and a signal from the sender.

I'm starting to think that the banjo bolt may be 90 degrees such that the oil isn't flowing through it as intended. Is this a possibility or should I start my hunt somewhere else?

Also, I used the inboard lines as I was following Racing Beat's instructions. So is the oil that the temperature is being measured before or after it has passed through the cooler? (are the inboard or outboard line the input and output lines for oil passage through the coolers?)


EDIT - ISSUE RESOLVED:

To answer the questions above (in case anyone comes upon this thread while searching)

-The direction of the banjo bolts doesn't matter.

-The inboard oil lines are the ones coming out of the engine, the outboard lines are the ones that return the now cooled oil back toward the engine.

-The problem was inadequate grounding of the sending unit. While the instructions specified the use of teflon tape to seal the sending unit and prevent leaks, it was this tape that prevented it from grounding (the threads serve to ground the sending unit). Once I attached a separate wire to ground the sending unit the sender and gauge functioned without issue.
