Oil Change Question

Maybe this is more of a technical question, but here goes:

I'm just past due on an oil change with about 4,000 miles since my last one. I'm about to take a road trip this weekend of about 800 miles round trip.

Is there any technical or practical benefit to getting an oil change before I go or is it fine to take care of it when I get back?

The last oil change was at the dealer and I've been topping it off with Castrol 5w30.

Fresh oil is always better than dirty old oil.

do it now, you're already overdue. No sense on continuing to drive on oil that should have been replaced by now.
I change mine every 2,500 to 3,000.

Change it yesterday.

How long does an oil change take at a dealer? An hour at the max.
Today is Tuesday......
You leave this weekend.......

Come on man!!!!!!
DO IT.

I'd almost recommend changing coils before your road trip. Depending on the milage of your car, and if the coils havent been swapped out yet. 800 miles is quite a lot on old coils. Just a thought.

Just change it, pay some quick lube place, 20 bux or so ? but MAKE SURE you watch them do the work and refill your car properly.

I can change my own oil in less than 20 minutes. but I always take my time so I always leave the drain plug open for maybe 30 minutes before I close it, so most oil would "drip" out

^^ that's why I always like Oil Can Henry's.
It's like an EZ lube type place but they roll up a cart next to your car that has TV monitors on it. There's a camera aimed under the hood, one behind the car, and one from underneath so you can watch them do all the work.
you get to sit in your car the whole time.

yup they do synthetic oils changes also the great thing about them is they're pretty nicely priced and you can come in before your 3000 miles and they top you off with oil free of charge as long as you had it done by them cuz you know how rx8's burn oil

Make sure to top off your blinker fluid and check your exhaust bearings while doing the oil change. You'll never know when you need more blinker fluid.

the service manual recommends an oil change every 7500 miles. or every 5000 miles if you have heavy duty use.

that said, i change my oil every 2500-3500 miles.
