oil change from 5-20 to 5-30 back to 5-20...
im at school and the computer is not letting me search so sorry if there is a thread on this.
anyway im starting to hear that a lot of engines are starting to die and about 2 oil changes ago i switched to 5w-30, and now i want to go back to 5w-20 and have the dealer do the oil changes after that so it wont void my engine warranty. so my question is.. can i go back to 5w-20 without doing a flush or w/e its called after switching to 5-30 w/o a flush? |
Just start using whatever grade of oil you want. They're compatible, no need to do anything special.
I would never do a flush, if you mean one of those deals with a solvent instead of oil. Ken |
It's illegal for the dealer to void your warranty as long as you have proof that the required service was performed with suitable parts at appropriate intervals by competent technicians.
You could get the oil changed at Iffy Lube (though I wouldn't recommend it) and Mazda would have to honor the warranty. |
Would you rather use heavier oil to protect your engine ?
or use the crap that they recommend so one day you have to replace it, probably out of your pocket ? your call. |
well i do want to protect my engine. but the dealer close to me is a f-ing DICK. oh well, sticking with 5w-30 haha thanks for the help!

You could get the oil changed at Iffy Lube (though I wouldn't recommend it) and Mazda would have to honor the warranty If I was a dealer and saw a failed engine and a pile of receipts from Jiffy Lube, first thing I'd do would be check for a missing drain plug. Ken |
