OFFSET help!

Already being patient for 3 weeks and still another 4 weeks to go for my Titanium RX8 arrival. I have been reading a lot of posts. Regarding to the offset there is lack of information on this topic. Although I knew the front is 18x8 for the factory rims but what about the rear?

I finally decided to put VOLK RACING GT-U GUN METAL to fit my Rx8 but my question is what will be the best offset to put? like 18x8 and 18x9. Although I know the OFFSET for 19 is 19x8.5 19x9.5. My guess is 18x8 and 18x9 will be prefect? Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your help in advance!!

Offset is the position of the mounting face in relation to the wheels outer surfaces. It is a # like 30, 35 etc. in mm. Will change with wheel width ie 8 or 8.5 or 9....to allow the wheel to be in the correct position so that it doesn't rub

You should be posting this in the Tires and Wheels section, but as mentioned by dannobre, you're not talking about offset, you're talking wheel width. I think you need to spend a few minutes reading the articles in the www.tirerack.com tech section to learn about offset and width.

Stock offset on the RX-8 wheels is 50mm. The RX-8 is designed for nearly balanced handling with the same width wheels and tires front and rear (nearly balanced - it does understeer at the limit). If you put wider wheels and tires on the back of the car, you will just make the car understeer worse - that would be bad. Unless you compensate by installing different shocks, springs, and sway bars designed for neutral handling with a staggered wheel/tire combination, you will be making your car handle worse.

Gordon
