OBX Exhaust Header
Ok, I did search before anyone says anything, I did both 'header' and 'exhaust header'. So on to business, on ebay I have been seeing the OBX headers for the 8 and after reading the comments on the cat back that they offer I am curious what people think about this header. I have seen them pretty cheap and am willing to give it a shot to see how it does. But is there anything I should be aware of? I haven't looked over the exhaust of the car much so I am not familiar with how mazda put it all together and got the emissions in spec.

The Mazda header is not that bad, and it's double walled to keep the red hot inside tubes from cooking everything nearby in the engine compartment.
Your best gains from exhaust mods come from loosing the cat & upgrading the muffler. Then maybe look into a canzoomer ECU piggyback. I saw the DMC in your sig. - With a N* ? - holy crap! That would be a handfull! :) |
you obviously need lessons on how to search
for starters, why would you be posting this in the General Discussion area rather than the Aftermarket Performance area ... |

I too have seen the OBX headers on E-bay & have become curious. Most Japanese headers to suit the 13B-MSP have prices around $US1000. Yet the OBX ones are around $US250. Its hard to spot the $750 difference in pictures on the net but itmakes you wonder if the Japanese ones are way overpriced of the OBX one is a heap of junk.........??? Still, the above link on the OBX headers is very informative REgards |
See OBX up close and personal and you will see where the extra $$ go...

I post here because I was asking a general question about the header, not how much I would get by installing it. Second, perhaps I could use some help with doing keyword searches, but I did search :p Thanks for the input, I think I may give it a try with a RP Super Cat.
As for the DMC ya it should be fun, I hope to get one of the factory supercharged N*'s with 475hp but if I can find one of he older 300hp - 350hp NA's on ebay for cheap (in comparison) I will just rebuild and tune her a bit. To get the power to the ground I am going to mate it to a 6sp Porsche tranny. Right now I am in the money saving stage since the 7 has taken a lot out of me but she is about done and quite crazy (can handle almost as well as the 8 can just less power) |
they are cheap, and dont produce any hp... and they look good in a photo..
they have a gasket, and now fit with the air injection system.. what do you really want to know? beers  |
But they will smooth the flow, which can be useful

I can't vouch for the quality of the OBX header, but I do have the OBX-R cat back and am totally impressed on the quality for the money. I've always owned Borla before now and you can't beat the systems they produce. That being said, I do feel that I got a great deal and a good product for my money. If the header is as good of quality, I would give it a go. I'm strongly considering trying one.

i've got an obx header. it doesn't serve much of a purpose besides letting me know that that ugly log manifold is gone, but i like it. it's quality.
|
I also have the obx catback and it's great not ricey or loud but sounds really good at WOT or under heavy load in the upper rpm range.....I'm not sure about the header though give it a whirl and let us know

From what Ive read, any brand of headers wont give too much of a gain on our cars.
