OBD2 reader network crash(collision) ???
 

Hey guys.

I use OBD2 reader "vGate iCar2 bluetooth" which is very small so convenient.

When I connect OBD2 reader on my rx-8 (04 auto) and monitoring information

through "Torque Pro" App, sometimes dashboard needles are INSANE!!!

Also Traction, AT, Engine light comes up!


WTF... I'm confused!!! :cussing:


Fortunately, that times car was moving well and engine was not stopped.


Few seconds later, needles are "normal" position.

Checking fault code, many error code comes up. PCM network, ABS, and so on.

After that, I always disconnect OBD2 reader

and, same INSANE situation never came up.

Anyone knows why OBD2 reader makes network crash???

Yeah that happens to me too. It's a problem with the OBD2 adapter not communicating with the car properly. Just unplug it and plug it back in. Don't worry about it :)

If only communication error on OBD reader, that's OK.
(For example, No response on APP)

But, I'm worry about needle(RPM, oil-pressure, etc), AT light, engine light, Traction light comes up.
When driving face to that situation, it is horrible!

RPM needle moves 0 to 9k, 9k to 0 many times :bowdown:

Communication errors like that make the dash do crazy stuff, like swinging the needles around and reading 0 mph.

I'm not familiar with that exact type of OBD2 hook up, but many (the ones I am familiar with at least) require you give the system time to "initialize" when first plugged in (e.g. key turned to 'ON' for a few minutes while the reader gets connected and establishes the car's 'PIN', etc). This is where I would start my investigation. Perhaps you don't have a solid connection and yours is becoming 'unplugged' momentarily, causing the subsequent communication errors?

Yeh, what he said. A faulty ground connection on the ODB-II unit can cause really weird things to happen. Make sure your unit is securely plugged in.

When I plugging OBD2 reader, always check securely plugged in.
There was no loosen connection.

If connector is not securely plugged in, is that really causes dashboard(not app, just car's) malfunction?

Or, is it possible that OBD2 electric shock while connector working?

Yeah even my RPM needle goes from 1K rpm to 0. All the lights come on. TC, brake, ABS etc. Just turn the car off, remove the adapter, start the car and plug it in again.

No idea about loose connections.
