o2 sensor cel

Hey guys,

I have tried to search while I was here at work but do not have a ton of time to dig through threads to find the answer to my question.

Here's the deal... I was coming home from an appointment and my CEL came on. (Don't ask me what color it was cause I am red/green colorblind... it was either yellow or green i think) I stopped into an autozone and they checked the code and told me that it was the after cat O2 sensor.

I called mazda after I got back to work and told them about what had happened. I have to be in Chicago at 7 tonight so I am going to be leaving after work (around 4). The guy from the shop said that as long as the light is not flashing that I should be ok to drive it the 180 miles up there. Do you think that I should trust him and drive it tonight? The car is performing fine otherwise... there are no signs that there is anything wrong.

If there are threads that I missed please direct me to them... I again apologize for the seeming lack of searching... I did search as much as I could but I need an answer rather soon. Thanks a bunch!

Tim

If its really a rear O2 sensor CEL, yes you can drive your car.

IT could be bad cat, it could be just the sensor itself. Nothing major I assume.

Nothing major, you should be fine as long as that's the issue. Performance might be hindered slightly if the cat is clogged.

Take it in, have them fix it as soon as you can. (just to be safe)
