Now she wants one.

So Im sitting here at the computer spending yet another evening staring at the pages of the RX8Club forum when my wife walks in and sits down next to me.
Mind you we have been looking for a suitable replacement for her 185k mile civic hybrid for a few weeks now. Randomly out of nowhere she says "maybe I'll get one of those" and points at the computer screen. " a new monitor?" I said. "no, an RX8." she replies.

She gives a troubled look and asks "what!?" as I give her a menacing stare. I said "why do you want an 8?"

Her response, "I like the blue one. Its pretty"

First thing I do is pull up the thread for "New and potential owners starts here" and tell her read this.

Her response, "I don't need to. Its your job to know those things"

Now it seems were shopping for our second one. :eyetwitch

sounds sketchy when women want their men to take care of their cars, especially a high maintenance one.
she surely wouldnt love the MPG if she was driving a hybrid.

godesshunter 12-05-2011 08:07 PM

Well I'm a mechanic by trade so I have always taken care of her cars. You are right about the mileage thing though. Hadn't considered that

Speed_8 12-05-2011 08:14 PM

show her a kia soul and let her say " ooooo that one is cute " lol and there you go. :)

Lol nah she already makes fun of those. "the stupid hamster car"

Speed_8 12-05-2011 08:21 PM

lol, oh! well my wife has expensive taste in cars. I wish she would just look at an accent or mazda 2 and just scream like a lil girl and say " I want I want " and then id be happy... but noooo, " oh rob that cars pretty".. that's an Audi A6, How about that one, its hyundai Elantra.... very good on gas, " Eww no looks like a beluga whale "

godesshunter 12-05-2011 08:24 PM

I shouldn't make her come off as sounding dumb and bimboish. She not. She had a 7 series Volvo turbo in the past and before the hybrid was an Integra GSR. She got the hybrid for the 120mile a day commute to school/work now that that is done with that she want something sporty again. And she can handle maintenance, at least remembering to even if I'm the one actually doing it. If nothing more I've at least driven that into her head about how important it is no matter what car she has.
Her words exactly "I wont own something crappy like a kia"

Das Stig 12-05-2011 09:01 PM

Show her an s2000. My brother has one and whenever he takes my 8 and i take his s2k, I almost always get a compliment on how cool "my" car is. I think its mostly because nobody has any idea what is. I don't know if she would like it because it doesnt have all the glamour features like the 8 does and it is mistaken for a miata. (Police confuse it too) But, its a Honda so you wouldn't have to do a bunch of work on it.

WhiteDealershipRice 12-05-2011 09:17 PM

MX-5 Power Hardtop

Almost the handling of the -8 For a fraction of the cost/maintennance (minus 2 seats)

If you don't mind the ragtop... A used Mazdaspeed miata is sex on wheels

monchie 12-05-2011 09:42 PM

Get her what she wants, or she'll leave you...lol

TYork 12-05-2011 09:46 PM

I say get her a RX8, it's a lot of car for not much money, she will love it.

Raivynn 12-05-2011 09:56 PM

Get her the 8. I'm the wife that just bought the husband's dream car ........ And won't let him drive it! :D

Who are you trying to kid by showing her the new owners thread... You knew how it is all along. :)

Besides... What's wrong with a couple of 8's in the family?

FastFreddy61 12-06-2011 02:57 AM

There are a few slightly used and bent Ferrari's in Japan for sale.

MS Addict 12-06-2011 03:03 AM

My advice? Man up, get your 8 another 8 as a playmate. You know you wanna be that guy in the neighborhood with two Rx8's in the driveway.

8 Maniac 12-06-2011 03:31 AM

There are 2 local couples that each have an RX-8. I think it works out pretty well... It might be a little weird if you got the same color, but that doesn't seem to be a problem if she wants blue.

Which blue does she want? I was always a little envious of the stormy blues once that was a color option...

Mindgarden 12-06-2011 03:32 AM

What if she kicks your ass in the twisties...just sayin

Then HE needs to trade in his RX-8 for a hybrid.

godesshunter 12-06-2011 06:18 AM

She has no interest in a convertible. Or a coupe for that matter. She likes the versatility of the freestyle doors while having a sporty coupe look. Winning blue is the color she likes.

At first I thought it would be kinda lame having the same two cars in the driveway but the idea is beginning to grow on me especially since she would be getting a series one. Id have like a little RX8 family tree at home.

Wingznut 12-06-2011 06:22 AM

If my wife said she wanted an 8, the search would begin immediately! :)

Oh yeah the search began last night. There are a ton of 04s in my area for pretty good prices but I get nervous about getting first production.

Speed_8 12-06-2011 07:14 AM

Do your best and try to get an 06 :)

Footman 12-06-2011 08:14 AM

My girlfriend bought a used 05' GT manual.... it's great, now I have TWO cars to detail, TWO cars to do plugs/wires/coils and basically maintain. It's taking up all my time now, she says it's great because she can rip it like crazy and not have to worry for failures because I'm her personal mechanic.
