Noob question

Im a noob to the RX8 so please no flamming. Is the RX8 more power, reliabile then the RX7?

Some people will flame you on here. But as for the question to your answer, we dont know yet. Its too early to tell. I think we have one member with around 55,000 miles on his RX8 without any problems, so we'll just have to wait and see.

RX-7 has more power, but because of the turbo. The RX-8 is naturally aspirated, and hopefully after the kinks are worked out of the ECU, etc, the RX-8 will get lots of power out of the motor (w/turbo's, sc, etc)

So, yes, in stock form the RX-7 (latest generation) has more power than the RX-8.

BUT, I'd also say that the RX-8 is more reliable.

Less power than an RX7, and as for reliability...mine is doing great. Not many people will tell you they're having mechanical problems. Pretty reliable cars, so far at least.

I guess I can relay this on the tailend of this question without it being a huge hijack. Mine is about to hit 13K and runs smooth as butter. One thing I have been meaning to ask. My center console, cupholder warmer does not give me the problem others do. I just took a 400 round trip yesterday and to verify on a longer trip I keep feeling my cupholder and my drink and it wasn't blazing hot, barely warm and my drink stayed cold for along time. Just curious why mine wouldn't be getting hot like others have complained about and if anyone else has noticed the heat not being a problem for them either?

Mine gets warm but not as hot as some have described. I recall someone that said they fixed this in the '05's but can't be sure as I can't find that post anymore. I just posted something similar in another thread.

Which gen Rx-7?

You didn't say which generation Rx-7. My 3rd gen was much more powerful and it was reliable. I had over 85k on the original motor and turbos when I decided to have it rebuilt (wanted more power - Ported). 3rd gens could be reliable if you knew how to care for them.

As for power, the 8 is more powerful than the 1st and 2nd gen Rx-7s. I think it is more powerful than a turbo II. At least in stock form. I've seen some T II's that were amazing.

As for reliability. I think it is a bit too early to tell. Stock NA 1st and 2nd gens were VERY reliable. I've seen some with over 150k on the original motors. Hopefully the 8 will be just as reliable since it is also a NA motor.

It's non-turbo and the latest generation. I've got 140K on my non-turbo RX-7 so far and it's doing great. I've met several ultra-high mileage rx-7s owners, so they can go for long periods of time if you take care of them.
