No 2009 Spare Tire....?
Hi everyone,
I just got the 2009 R3 (2 days ago)... the salesman said "this car does not come with a spare tire because theres no room for one." I was like WTF? :squint: Then he pulls out a portable air combressor and some foam sealant stuff in a can and says "this is your spare tire, it will get you 20 miles." The salesman didnt know anything about the car in general, I quizzed him on the basics and he failed miserably so I dont know if he is correct when he says theres no room. My question is: Is there a spare tire for my car available and is there really "no room" for one? Thanks in advance! |

i call bs. the mazda website has it availible (http://accessories.mazdausa.com/weba...9+RX-8#3000035)
there would have to be a significant change in the trunk. where are you located? maybe you could check out a local members car to see if the spare tire kit is interchangeable between models. if so you should pick one up off of here for cheaper that what the dealer would charge. also that tire seal stuff is junk. it messes with your tires. |
I carry one....

I've got one, though it takes up most of the room in my trunk D:

there is room for a spare in the trunk; I have one, you just have to pay extra for it.

There's a little bit of discussion on it here: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/so-i-finally-pulled-trigger-143774/ From what I've seen of the 2009s, I don't think that they've changed anything enough to make the tire mounting kit unusable. |
the rx-8 doesn't come with a spare tire as std. Instead it comes with a tire repair kit.... like the miata.
I don't carry a spare tire. No reason to. Road Assistance and repair kit suffice. It takes up space and adds weight. YMMV. |
In all honesty, I have a spare tire, then I just realized I don't have any way to jack the car up and get the tire off/on. No real point in it being in there D:

....I should have them? I haven't really LOOKED hard. I was under the impression I had to supply my own, haha.

open trunk. Look at the part of the inside closest to you. You'll see a plastic storage area up agains the inside of the trunk. it's in there. :)

Oh, well awesome. I guess I still have yet to find all those nooks and crannies :P

Just buy Run Flats and never need a spare again. Kuhmo has a new run flat that will fit our cars and is only $130 each

Never fear, Jedi is here.
by 'buy it here' he probably means either buying it from someone selling theirs (which happens every so often) or one of our forum vendors. www.onlinemazdaparts.com www.finishlineperformance.com |

i've seen the 04-08 spare tires go for $100-150. much better price. i currently have my spare sitting next to my desk.

Yup, I can confirm. I own an 09 (Japan spec Type E). No spare tire, there's a tire reparing kit (small box) in the trunk instead. Spare tire is available as an accessory though. I thought about it and decided it was a waste of space. If I get a flat, worse come to worse, I can still fix up the tire and drive it to the nearest service station and get my original tire fixed up, and besides I need all the trunk space I can get!!

Spare or not to Spare. that is the real question...

No wheel well in the truck. It bolts to a bracket on the roof between the rear speakers.
