I got the call from my insurance company today... My car is a total write off. You all are a fantastic community and I would give anything to have my baby back.

sorry to hear, the wheels look untouched so you can send them to me! ;)

Chris113113 05-16-2013 03:57 PM

Luckily the wheels are unscathed. I'm definitely taking the wheels, but I'm not sure what I'll do with them yet.

jasonrxeight 05-16-2013 04:00 PM

they totalled it because of some door damage? just replace both doors. the car does not even have a b pillar.

Luckyboii69 05-16-2013 04:28 PM

they prob said..fuck it..too expensive to repair it..lets claim it total loss

wonder how much he could get if he decided to keep the car without totaling it.

Chris113113 05-16-2013 04:41 PM

The biggest issue is the passenger seat. Both doors, the rear panel, and the passenger seat need to be replaced, plus a bunch of air bags.

ken-x8 05-16-2013 05:02 PM

Air bags...those things and the interior parts they rip apart are not cheap.

Hope the bags kept you from getting hurt. Good luck with your next car.

Ken

i wouldn't question it, better to have a check for the car than to have it "fixed" and still not be 100%. my car had a salvage title because the front bumper, supports, hood, hood support, headlights, lf fender all needed to be replaced as well as repaint the front of the car.

the better question is: "what happened here?" looks like the car was parked and hit where it sits in the picture.

Ken

then all the insurance companies will claim all the damaged cars total loss if they are too concerned about spending a lot of money on air bags

they will give him what the car is worth..they arent that stupid to write him a check for 10k when the car is only worth 5k on the market..

timmytriangles 05-16-2013 08:11 PM

monchie 05-16-2013 09:44 PM

It looks like an easy fix if you ask me...

shazy 05-16-2013 10:46 PM

shazy 05-17-2013 12:16 AM

but Karack isn't the op and didn't describe the accident
munchie

jasonrxeight 05-17-2013 10:29 AM

there is no way it got hit when its parked and the car not moved an inch in that parking spot. more like got t-boned and drove to that lot after.

RIWWP 05-17-2013 10:31 AM

...or it was hit elsewhere and towed, and the tow truck dropped it off in that spot...

Edit: Nevermind, all the sand on the ground suggests the hit was right there. Although claiming "not moved an inch" implies that you know where it was sitting before. It's not square in the parking spot after all. Could have been "stopped" from moving further by the car on the other side.

200.mph 05-17-2013 10:50 AM

sorry for your loss. what are you doing with the wheels?

Bamsterman 05-17-2013 11:09 AM

Wanna send those front mud flaps my way? ;)

thebetteryou 05-17-2013 01:10 PM

Sorry for your loss. =( I just got in a 2nd accident the other day in mine. Luckily, still not totaled.

Chris113113 05-18-2013 11:30 AM

Sorry for the lack of response. I was T-boned and pulled into the lot, it just looks like I was hit in the spot. The insurance company called me today after I left a few angry messages telling them that it's repairable and they said that I'm right!:yelrotflm

I might have her back! I'll get the final consensus hopefully no later than Monday.

you don't have to accept anything that an insurance claim adjuster throws out at you. you can opt to have it repaired at the best shop you can find or take the actual value of the car, which includes modifications that you can document and even show average selling prices of similar cars that are being sold on the market.

just because a price is in blue book doesn't mean you immediately accept it. say for example you had a full restored '69 camaro, you won't find many accurate book values for the car so it will be adjusted until both you and the insurance company come to an agreement, or it gets repaired regardless of the value of the car

on the other end, you can also take the book value and buy back the car and transfer any modified parts you want or sell them off separately.

we had an old '83 mercedes that was rearended, the repairs were $1500 plus $500 for a rental car. why wasn't that car totalled out? we didn't even get that much for it when we sold it.

honestly if it were me i would total it out and buy the car back, repair it with the total out figure and have a large chunk of extra money to put into whatever.

Amethyst643 05-21-2013 08:40 PM

That's great! I hope you get it repaired. It seems like it would be totally repairable since it lacks a b-pillar..
