Newbee

Just (about 45 minutes ago) traded in my 2006 350Z (70k miles) for a 2009 RX-8 R3 (26400 miles) with everything in it. Paid $6500 plus my car. Not as powerful as my 350Z but a lot less claustrophobic, the view from the car is great and it handles the curves sooo sweetly.

My problem is figuring out the Navigation system, setting up the satellite radio and such. Odd thing is that it is receiving the radio (wonder why?).

I turned down the $2000 extended warranty figuring that since I do not race and will do my maintenance, I will not require it. Should I run and get it or are the 2009's better than the old 2003-2004'?

Extended warranty wouldn't be a bad idea, but you're in a good position with a relatively low mile R3. I couldn't tell you for sure though without compressions test results, which I hope you requested before you bought it.

Anyways, welcome to the Light Side. I applaud you for trading the Z for the '8.

They are "better" in terms of reliability.

However, $2k for the warranty might not actually be worth it if you know your way around car work. You should still have tons of factory warranty left on the engine, plenty on the powertrain warranty, and a fair amount on the bumper to bumper warranty.

About the only things that would make it "worth it", is if you lose several transmissions, or the steering rack once, or ECU/PCM and are past the powertrain or bumper to bumper (respectively). These are viable possibilities, but certainly not common. The S2 transmission appears even better than the S1 transmission.

Gratz!

Congrats. Lets see some pics.

Did not do any compression test before I bought it from a Ford dealer. The Carfax was clear and I did easily hit 95 mph on the 40 mile drive back to my home. Seems to drive well. Thanks for the feedback. Will out in pictures soon but it is a stock Silver/grey with two color leather seats, moonroof, voice navigation system that I know little about and everything power.

Silver R3? Where are you located??

Easy_E1 11-09-2011 06:14 PM

Welcome. Nice upgrade from the 350.

Zahir 11-09-2011 09:10 PM

OOPs! I was fooled

I thought I bought this beautiful R3, Silver with everything including Navigation system in it. The only thing missing was the Manual. Now, I just read that the Navigation is not available in the 2009 R3, that it did not come in Silver. I do not see 19inch wheels either! I guess I got the Grand Touring instead?

Yep, GT. I was gonna say.

Congratulation,
As far as an extended , YES you should. Over the past week I have integrated every extended warranty company from New Jersey,to Texas. I was looking for an extended warranty for my 2011 R3.

An extended warranty is like taking an option on your car. It is bought with today's dollars, and will increases in value every day.

What are the terms that they are offering you?
I narrowed it down to two possibilities, Mazda's MEPP. and Warranty Direct. The terms I wanted was 10 yr/100k mile.
If you choose to get a warranty, shop it and don’t worry about the quote you get expiring, READ the contract. and pick the best fits your needs then call them when you are ready to move forward.
. If you go to http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayHomepage.action, and register your car with Mazda, then you will have access to an owners manual.
