they suck on gas and reliability.
If spending 8k to buy the car drains your bank account don't even bother to consider a purchase. The rx8 is a rewarding car but needs maintenance and some parts are expensive.

before you buy, have it compression tested. also check with mazda or a dealership for any open recalls.

if you live in a place with a tailpipe emissions test, have it tested.

after you buy it, get an alignment the way the car feels has a lot to do with the wheel alignment. get a detail, humans are filthy animals, and add in 8 years of spilled soda and maybe a dog, and its gross in there!

after that just enjoy, its a FUN car

The price seems firm. Anyway, read the stickies and good luck.

8K is too much for an '04. They were the most trouble prone. I would suggest you skip this car. If you do buy it, you get off this forum or you will be constantly worried about it breaking down, worried about whether you should be doing anything to it. Most other cars, you follow the owner's manual and the cars last. Here on this Forum they tell you to to do things not listed in owner's manual such as pre-mix, redline daily, use expensive oils and scare the **** out of you.

Dont necessarily need to pre mix
Redlining daily is a myth
Don't need to use expensive oils, just good quality
Your post scares the **** out of me

I guess that either you like being worried or else this doesn't apply to you?

Pretty poor advice imo.

Yes, we do pile on the negatives for new owners, because if they aren't prepared to deal with it they shouldn't even start. If it doesn't scare them off then they have a good chance of making it just fine.

It really is the better option vs encouraging them to jump into it with a blindfold on and one hand tied behind their back. One opens their mind to make a decision on if the problems are something they are willing to deal with if they happen, the other sets them up for a heartache, high financial cost of trying to fix stuff too late that they should have known about, and probably leading to yet another needlessly destroyed car.

Find out if its the original engine or not. It might be a new engine in the car. you never know. Call Mazda up with the VIN number. if its original engine, definitely 100% need to get compression test before you buy it.

I do not know why you bother even replying to him, he is a troll that is butthurt for some reason. I guess it is good to at least set him straight for the benefit of newer members that he is misleading.
