im buying the car in st petes florida and driving it up to coast to newfoundland next month and i just need as much info as i can ive been reading and researching the car like something fierce but theres some things that dont have answers, IS there any main things to know in maintaining the car besides the simple oil issue

Oil issue isn't simple. It could be, but everyone having their own opinion makes it complicated. There is, however, a really strong consensus that it should be changed every 3000 miles. And that the Mazda oil filters are hard to beat.

Check oil level every other fuel fill-up, til you get a feel for how often you actually have to top off the oil

Don't turn it off cold, lest it flood. If it's used, visit a Mazda dealer and have them look up the car's maintenance history...particularly what recalls have been done. If MSP16 has not been done, get it done down there before your drive home.

Enjoy your drive!

for some reason i can go 3k miles without having to top it off with oil which is weird and my car is an 04 with 76k miles, also it is important to change it every 3k, as far as synthetic or non synthetic i've heard the same as to go with the non synthetic, i live in a small enough area that they only have synthetic available, so far no problems....

there is no best oil, it all depends on the weather where you are operating the car at, sorry don't know where you are at in canada. read up on different types and weights of oil and understand why you use that oil. check these out, https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/rx8-faq-new-owners-116484/, https://www.rx8club.com/australia-new-zealand-forum-37/10-things-new-rx-8-owners-should-know-day-1-a-35405/. Also prepare for a lot of grief about the search tool and other assorted flames.
