This last Sunday I purchased a used 2009 RX8 R3 in Aurora Blue with approximately 9400 miles.

Not the best picture, I will get better one tomorrow.

My old car was an 04 WRX, I'm a sucker for different/eccentric engines I guess.

Sweet looking R3!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of deal did you receive?

Got it for 19500 plus tax tag and title

GTs and R3s with less than 15000 miles in my area are listed at 21 - 23

Congrats. Sounds like you got a killer deal.

YaXMaNGTO 12-02-2010 12:18 AM

Yah. That's a deal... nice.

I'd have a tough time turning down an R3 at that price and mileage.

SlickRick51586 12-02-2010 10:14 AM

So far, I really like the car. The handling is precise and responsive; the suspension on the R3 is stiff but still forgiving. Aesthetically the car is perfect for me, I don’t feel that need to change or replace any of the parts.

I do have a few minor concerns,

I have the can of marbles, but only at high RPM and WOT. I’m leaning towards it being the coolant restrictor. I took it to redline on the test drive and did not encounter the noise. I seriously doubt with this low of mileage it’s the other source, because the CarFax report shows two oil changes since purchase which is about right.

I get some break squeal occasionally, might need new pads which is a little odd. The rotors appear to be in good condition.

Occasional shake at idle, which feels very similar to my WRX (which is normal for a WRX). The car has no trouble idling just a little shake. Just to clarify the car makes good power, and does good in the daily commute drag race to the next stop light (it’s not down on power, and after further reading here it appears common enough, it's not violent).

I don’t believe there are any serious problems with the car. Just felt like sharing some of my small concerns.

The shake is a little disconcerting at first but you get used to it. my breaks are near new and they sqeak at low break and are quiet with heavier pressure.

tza0001 12-02-2010 10:32 AM

^Sounds normal for an rx-8. Marbles in the can is something most rx-8s have, in some rx-8s is more noticeable in others less. Break squeal is related to brake dust accumulated between your pads and rotors. Break pads should last for about 40,000 miles depending on driving style. A bit of shake at idle is also normal.

Welcome to the club and enjoy the car!

Yeah, I was disconcerted when I went from my Camry to the WRX (which has a very similar engine shake, as the engine is self balanced). From the WRX to the RX8 it felt almost exactly the same, I actually didn't notice the shake at first.

I love the car, and thanks for the warm welcome.
