NEW RX8 owner

just got the car few days ago from a lexus dealer in florida(im in alabama myself)

ive always been in love with this car and driving is amazing. im glad i got one/.. i got a 2004 with 42k miles.

i read there were alot of problems with the early year models.

has me worried so are there a ton with problems with the car or did i just read a website with the negative users.

I am getting oil changed tomorrow... what oil do i need to use??

and anyone have any pointers for the car

ive read some. prem fuel, let it warm up before shutting down,
and rev it up once a day.

i got this car for a great price and thinking about selling for a profit. but i wouldnt mind keeping it but im afraid of it flooding or engine failure

help thanks

Joseph

Welcome to the club man! All your questions have been answered many times before, just search the forums and you will find everything you need to know. You won't flood your engine if you let the temp needle get up to halfway. I use 5W-20..but some people switch to other types...Just treat it right and it will return the favor.

do i need to start it until its halfway... or just make sure its halfway b4 turning it off

make sure its "halfway" before turning it off..

when starting up let it settle for two to three minutes and you're good to go, let it warm up the rest of the way under load. don't sit in your car for 10 minutes wasting gas waiting for the water temp gauge to come all the way up to operating temp.

awesome thanks

one little word of caution and advice, don't allow the search police to discourage you after you post a question that's probably answered somewhere in the noise of a previously posted thread containing a similar question.

it happens in here, and with only a few offenders.

having said that, searching isn't a bad idea.

what model year is your car?

congrats, but odds are if you bought it from a dealership, making a profit off of it privately will be damn near impossible.

Just a typical web site. Go to any product-oriented web forum and there will be lots of posts describing how the product is terrible and is probably responsible for world hunger. If not worse.

True. But not a big deal. Mazda specifies 91 octane for best performance, but it will run on 87. Lots of posts here on people's experience with 87, and you can try it yourself if you want.

Let it warm before shutting down. No need to warm it up before driving. Give it 10 seconds after starting, then just drive gently (as with any car) til temp is up.

Revving at least once a day is good. Probably good for the engine, as people say, but definitely great for one's mood. Especially if you've got a piston-oriented passenger who quakes at the thought of redlining. It's fun to snicker at them and say "This ain't got no g**d*** pistons. It likes to rev!"

Have fun with your car. But watch out for those Alabama State Troopers hiding in the bushes.

Remember that your temp Guage is not accurate. It will stay in the same place from around 170-230deg so it might be warm enough earlier then you think and you wont know if your car is getting hot until it is to late. So it is a good idea to get a real guage or even easier buy a scanguage 2 or a MSD dashhawk both connect to the OBD2 port and yo cna moniter the stock sensors. The dashhawk has a lot of extra features like data-logging which can come in handy if you ever do any modifications.
