New RX-8 R3

Jan 27 I bought a new 2009 RX-8 R3 with some winter tires and rims, this is my response to lowering my cost after selling a BMW 335 Coupe and Porsche 911 Turbo. Got to say it is a fun car and if this is econmising things are not so bad.

Interested in the Cobb Acessport for the RX-8 and been reading all I can find about it. Is there anything else that people could offer for advise.

Is it the best option?

Is it true that reprograming can be done to get the 250hp configuration, what is the down side?

When you get emision testing or dealer support do you go back to stock programing?

i dont think you read right, no way in hell are you gonna get 250 without any FI...

anyways, WELCOME to the addiction

and pics of the car or it doesnt exist :suspect:

SayNoToPistons 02-02-2010 06:22 PM

Quite an economical downsizing there. If you mean 250 hp to the wheels, then you're going to have trouble without force induction like dozer said. The Cobb AP for series II RX8s isn't out yet but we should have update on that situation soon according to MM's post.

Avatar is picture of my car, as soon as I figure how to insert a picture I will post more.

What I meant is that the USA version is rated at 238, the Japanese is rated at 250. I understand that the US version was 250 until Mazda adjusted for emmisions and fuel economy.

Trust but verify :naughty:

In S1 MAYBE, but definitely no way in hell for a S2 to have 250hp. The new S2 series in Japan corrected it to 235PS only.

And Japanese don't give better shit to outside market than their JDM one. So your R3 can only have less than 235PS. :P

If you are looking for similar acceleration of the 335i/911turbo, you can forget about it.

You should use all the money you save to go to track in the summer, then start modding it for better handling...its always more enjoyment / bang for your buck to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow...

emission stuff might be hard to deal with. FI the baby.

There will be no COBB AP for the series 2 RX-8.

Congratulations Mark. She is a beauty. Nice color/wheel combination. Say may I ask, what has been your impression of the 8 after driving such fierce machines as the 911 turbo and B'mer.

Just curious that's all. Would love t hear your thoughts.

Congratulations again, and welcome to the cult, em I mean the club.

:beer05: GUYS, I am very aware I will not match HP or torgue.

Since both had Turbos it was easy to get more power, believe me I understand that it is harder on a normal aspirated engine.

Just curious if a Cobb Accessport made any sense.

Had the Porsche 911 Turbo at road America and I'm proud to say I hit 150mph between 14 and 1 turns, and I'm not the guy that put a Porsche Carrera GT into the gravel pit or the yellow 964 into the wall.

Bought the RX-8 for some very spicific reasons and the first was a lower cost solution that was still fun to drive. My other choices was a VW GTI, and Mini Cooper JWC. Both good cars and ones I owned before, but could not beat great deal of the Mazda product.

What is up with the attitude? I am not a gold chain set driving a Ferrari;)

Love the color, and LOVE the R3 wheels.

I have always enjoyed cars that have more usable performance and I also enjoy varity. MINI Cooper and Porsche Boxster is a great example of that, and I think the RX-8 is too. 911 or a Ferrari is a very serious performance car and to get that thrill level you need to be going very fast. That can be crazy on regular roads.

Having said that I think you can have more fun with cars that have a lower threshold for pain. Dollar wise and risk wise. It offer fun at lower speeds, and that is not a put down.

Given this economic climate I needed to cut back, but rest assured I will be back to the more exotic cars later, hopefully after this great stimulas package!?!

If anyone has the time check out a Tesla Roadster Sport Coupe. The acceleration on the level of a Porsche 911 turbo is amazing arugment for 14500 rpm electric engine.

I had to pass on a new RX-7 GLS-SE back in 1985 and always wanted to revisit a Rotary engine. This RX-8 is my chance to do that, but it has the thrill and drive- abilty that I always seek out in any car.

My thing is sport cars but after owning a MINI Cooper S I had to own a BMW, and a 335 Coupe was a perfect choice. Great drivers car.

My plan is the RX-8 is a way to get that sport fix and I hope to keep it as a daily driver for many years. After some recovery years I will ertertain other 9,000 RPM screamers...Ferrari, Tesla????? Who knows

There is a thread in the Series II forums about the Cobb AP for the S2 RX8's. MazdaManiac (MM) made a post promising to give us an update on the Cobb AP for the S2 as soon as he can, but unfortunately we just got news that Cobb won't be releasing one any more.

Razz1 02-05-2010 04:56 PM

He said 250, that's gross and he will get it with an AP from Mazda Manaic butt...

There is a big sown side...... You loose money out of your pocket.

Also it is not available for the new 09 and up RX8's no sales no mods available.

Nothing wrong with variety. In my garage I have a 390hp V8, a rotary, a V6, a V-twin, a single and an inline 4 that revs to 12000rpm. Just sold my flat twin. Never got the types who stick to one type of anything!

Of course I'm biased, but you made a good choice. I still find the 8 to be as fun as anything to drive.

Just curious did you ever consider a Ducati? I test rode one and they are amazing, end up buying a BMW K1200S, but I like to revisit that sometime. :yumyum:
