Finally... It's your time to feel one with the machine. ;)

Congrats.

monchie 05-11-2011 11:49 PM

Congrats on the purchase. Now, drop it like it's hot!

kosnosferatu 05-12-2011 08:39 AM

haha what I need to do is get new tires. The previous owner had some crappy "dunflops" on the front. I just can't decide if I want to get some ultra high performance all seasons like the continental DWS or so the summer/winter tire thing.

Lancifer 05-12-2011 08:50 AM

Grats! I am loving mine!

RX8Soldier 05-12-2011 09:29 AM

don't get all seasons. They're junk.
Judging by your location, I'd recommend a set of full summer and winter tires.

Congrats and welcome to the addiction ;)

kosnosferatu 05-12-2011 10:33 AM

I had the DWSs on my 3 series and they were pretty good. Although, with the 8 now I'd like to get into autox, so I probably should have a set of summers and a set of winters. more $$ lol

Welcome to the addiction :)

Not ALL all seasons tires are junk
1) The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus; and
2) the Pirelli P Zero Nero A/S are nearly as good as their summer versions, and do give good control in poor weather and light snow. Read the reviews at ConsumerReports.org in the high-performance all season tire tests.

They will cost you a little more, but they work and keep your RX8's great handling, while adding some safety for those who drive in colder climates.

^Like they said. Welcome to the addiction. Take a look for the new owners threads. First $100. - $300 to spend, etc...

Roidz 05-12-2011 12:04 PM

Congrats and welcome. Enjoy the 8.

no worries, I already did all the searching on gas and oil. Don't worry, after being on a BMW forum, I'm used to newbie flaming haha

I run the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus as well and she sticks in the turns even through our Texas rain. They run beautifully on the track regardless of weather, and I was even able to safely drive home in the snow on them. It only snowed for two weeks but we get more ice than anything, and I didn't end up in a wreck so they worked beautifully for me.

eternal_gamer 05-13-2011 02:27 AM

Welcome! I jus joined 2-3 weeks ago myself. But I've been in the Rotary game for 8 years now. And all I gotta say is, take care of that Rotary Engine like any engine should be taken care of and you will love the Rotary for its unique design. Trust me. Good luck.

Lancifer 05-13-2011 08:37 AM

Been simply a ghost on this forum for over a year while researching my choice to buy an RX-8. Once you have it you wonder why you didn't do it earlier. It has definitely made me happy and as a mechanic it has invigorated my need to learn. I know rotaries pretty well but this car will make you an expert if you have a mind for it.

Enjoy the car, treat it like a king and it will love you right back! Grats to all the new owners of this vehicle.

gwilliams6 05-13-2011 09:09 AM

These are super ultra high performance all season tires. They topped out the rankings in the tests and many RX8 owners like docbeech (in post above) love them in all kinds of weather. I have done research here and these are the ones you will be happy with.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!:icon_tup:

CyberPitz 05-13-2011 12:11 PM

I will vote for the Summer / Winter tire combo. All Seasons blow in anything slippery....and being in WI, you'll need the winter tires.

Good luck with the car! VR's are so sexy.

gwilliams6 05-13-2011 12:32 PM

The best all season ultra high performance tires DONT BLOW in anything slippery, I have used them on my seven rotary sports cars and more and know from experience they work. That includes my owning: a RX3, two RX4s (both coupe and sedan), first gen RX7 (later heavily modified to race in SCCA), second gen Turbo II RX7 (later modified and raced), third gen FD Twin Turbo RX7 (later modified), and now a 2008 40th anniversary RX8 (with MSCAI) ,along with also owning a 2008 Mazdaspeed3 GT with MSCAI too . I have easily driven over a million miles in rotary Mazdas alone.

But certainly in the heaviest snow of Wisconsin, a full winter tire will always be best for traction. Though I have driven my RXs in the winter snows of Michigan with my ultra high performance tires and done just fine.

CyberPitz 05-13-2011 12:35 PM

That's kinda what I meant......if it's gonna be slippery in WI, it's going to be some snow, which I wouldn't trust my life with on All Seasons.

*EDIT* I don't see how rotary cars matter in your post, though. Anything RWD needs really good traction in snow.

gwilliams6 05-13-2011 12:44 PM

Just saying I have driven thousands of snowy winter miles on ultra high performance A/S tires with NO PROBLEMS. If you know how to drive a rear wheel car you dont have to spend on another set of tires and maybe another set of wheels. I have trusted my life and I am still here and my cars are still fine. An RX8 will never be an AWD SUV, but you can still drive it in the winter, I do every year. It is not just about the tires. The driver, and their winter skills are even more crucial here. If you knew how to drive a rear wheel drive car in the winter before, you will be able to drive a RX8 in the winter too. The torque is easily controllable , the brakes, traction control and abs are great. Just don't drive like an idiot and you will be ok with winter tires and even good A/S tires.
