New proud owner

hey guys my name is ali and i just got my 04 rx8 last sunday and i have to say i am very pleased with it. it drives like a dream, goes fast, and unfortunately :40oz: gas but i knew what i was getting myself into. although the first couple of days it was registered i averaged under 10 mpg!!haha but im over that phase. I am not very educated on rotaries but more than the average person, and enough to know what to do and what not to do. I know how to use the search bar so that wont be a problem for us. I work at a dealership called berlin city honda(no flaming please i hate hondas more than anyone:dunno:) so i get discounted parts from various places like napa. The best part for me is "full access" to the recon dept after hours on saturdays :naughty: im not sure if its allowed or not but w/e. this is her before after 1 saturday(wash, showroom shine spray, maguires tech 2.0 wax, and some brand polish and im not finished yet!! http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...6221177&type=3
i also have 1 question about how you guys drive to get best gas milage. NO im not complaining nor do i want answers like dont drive or buy a honda i just want to know what rpm range you guys like to stay in while pushing it once a day? and before anyone else says it yes im young(turned 19 on the 9th). but i need a car for college next year in virginia so i saved up my money and purchased this all on my own and i dont have a wealthy family either, in fact this is the best car in the whole family(except for the 2 GMC 2500's) and thats not an opinion. the black tiburon is my sisters car that she also bought all on her own for college a few years ago. so thats my introduction lol i hope none take anything i said the wrong way i just wanted to give you a little slice of me because hopefully people on this site will know me soon(when i get expendable money :crying:) but next saturday i am going to pop off the wheels remove the weights, spray some wheel acid and brake cleaner, clean the crap out of it and wither shine them or plasi dip them. but either way i will be shining the tires.

Welcome!

There is NO way to drive that will save gas -
drive like a granny = 19mpg,
drive like you stole it = 18mpg, literally.

i do a lot of highway driving, what i found is that between 3000-3500rpm's gives me the best gas mileage, while the closest to three the better

thanks ill give that a try next fillup, ive been shifting at 5k while keeping it above 3k but for me its all city with 2 mins a day on the highway.

congrats and welcome.

As for the gas mileage, I guess theres 2 things you can do to keep the gas mileage as high as you possibly can with this car.

#1: give her a tuneup. healthy parts mean she wont be drinking gas for unnecessary reasons.

#2: if you want to get as best mileage as you can, you just keep the RPMS low while upshifting, and get to overdrive asap. I can usually keep my rpms at 3k-3.5k max during upshift. But due to people telling me its good to redline it to burn carbon, sometimes off of a start I'll start rolling and then punch it through first. you will at least see a difference if you keep the RPMs down, rather than punching it at every stop light. Plus at least for me, the lower the RPMs I shift at, the more smooth the shifting is.

thanks so far thats 2 people who say 3-3.5k so im definitely trying it and trust me i am not done tuning her up, so far all i have done is an oil change but i want to give her a complete fluid swap including ac recharge and maybe plugs wires, and coils.and deff a k&n air filter to go with the airbox modification i did 2 days ago
