New Owner Concerns and Questions
 

Hello all...I just bought a 6-speed 04' Rx8. The car has 62,xxx miles on it and its completely stock. I LOVE the car. I've always liked them. Its by FAR the most FUN car I've ever owned. Thing is though, I NEED this car to last me the next 2-4 years. First and foremost, is that even possible? Will the rotary last me that long? From what I've read I would say no...which is rather disappointing but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. If it won't...what exactly do I need to do to keep the engine as healthy as possible? I don't have all the money in the world but I have enough to maintain the car...I hope...

What exactly should I watch out for? I'm honestly kind of scared because in the past I've owned junkers that, although they were junkers, ran forever with little maintenance.

I've read over a few threads but its all so overwhelming. And I'm not the biggest car guy...I'm a quick learner and can fix things but I don't have too much knowledge when it comes to engines.

Anyway, why did you get an rx8 if your scared of rotaries...lol

Well, my advice to you is to read the stickies and check your oil level at least once a week, depending on your driving habits. Rotaries burns oil, and that's what it does...i know it sucks, but this car is unique, and that's why i bought it. Good luck and take care of it and it will take care of you.

I read somewhere that you should top your oil off with conventional oil every 2 fill ups...is this true?

Just to be in the safe side, just check it once a week. If the oil level is in the acceptable area of the dipstick, then you don't have to fill it up, just do it on the second week or so (depending on your driving habits). Just make sure you don't forget because you might see your oil warning light in your dash.

Of course it's possible. There are plenty of RX-8's out there with 100k+ miles on them.

I'm not trolling. I seriously want to know what I can do to make this car last as long as possible...I love it. I just want to know what I should be looking for and some advice on when to change my plugs or wires or whatever.

Thanks...I've read pretty much all of them...its just SO much information at once its hard to cram it all in my brain.

First thing you should do is change the plugs wires and coils, unless you know for a fact they were recently changed. Did you bother to get a compression test done before you bought it? If not the motor might already be on its way out and you wouldn't know.
