what are you talking about?

DeanLuxton 03-27-2006 02:12 PM

what I'm trying to understand is the model differences, Jap Type S rx8 has 250hp, UK and others have less i.e. 193 and I think 232hp. But the models also vary on suspension, wheels etc. What I am trying to find is the differences in performace, top end etc.

Congrats on your car. I don't think there's any performance differences globally, just different ratings. There is the 5speed rx8 which has less power, but all the 6speeds should have about the same power. Haven't heard about differences in suspension/wheels.

YOU CAN SEE, FOUND THIS ON A UK IMPORTER SITE - PARTLY TELLS SOME OF THE THINGS i WAS LOOKING FOR.
Mazda Rx8Mazda Rx8 “a sports car like no other” - indeed! The RX8 was launched in 2003 to great reviews worldwide - winning What Car's best Coupe - with its pillarless cabin and proper 2+2 seating for 2 adults in the back, making the most pratical sports 4 seater available on the market (at the price). Japanese versions range from 200-250BHP as standard as opposed to the UK's 192/231BHP model - The Type S 250BHP model is better spec'd than the UK 6Speed with more power, sports suspension and active stability control as standard - most cars have many extras, enquire with any Bonsaicars agent. The Type E has a slightly tamer power output with a luxury spec level available only in Auto Tiptronic (with Leather). Finally the Base model represent the best value for money but comes with 16" alloys and auto tip box. The only current selling sports car with the fantastic advanced Wankel rotary engine - the Mazda Rx8 has been built using the lessons of the rx7 - and all this technology comes at a great price in a four door sexy car. Performance, handling, comfort, ride, safety and equipment are top notch - still allowing comfortably for four persons to travel with immense style with their luggage. An award winning coupe and Car of the Year when it was released, this cracker of a coupe is available at unbelievable prices - with the most surprising value coming from Japan where you can get the Automatic and more powerful 250Hp models. These vehicles are loaded with kit - even in the Base model - see full specifications below. Mazda RX8 Specifications:
Available Mazda RX8 Variants:Mazda RX8 Base ModelThe most basic model with 16" alloys - available in 5Sp Manual and Auto. Smaller engine spec (200HP) - Non leather - good value import. see specs above: Mazda RX8 Type ELeather interior model only comes in Auto box - 16" standard though many have the 18" alloy upgrade. Smaller engine (200HP) - see specs above: Mazda RX8 Type SSport model with 18" and 6Sp Manual box - 250HP powerhouse.: Review:Honest John Reviewed: "The first, most obvious difference about the car is that amazing four door bodyshell, a bit like something MG came up with in the early 1930s. It works a treat. The back seats are not only easy to get in and out of, they’re also very comfortable for someone 5’ 9” to sit behind someone 5’ 9”. You could do 1,000 miles there, no trouble. Flying solo, there’s another advantage. It’s extremely easy to pop open a back door to chuck a briefcase in the rear footwell or lay your jacket on a rear seat. Not a gimmick. Not for show. A real advantage. To combat the lack of B pillar Mazda has hugely strengthened the car’s structure. And actually when you shut the rear door it brings a B pillar with it, supported on a triangulated pin and clamp system so it’s as rigid as if it had been welded in place. The whole car is stiff and rattle-free, built like the previous RX7 twin-turbo around an immensely strong central backbone. A proper chassis to hang the double front wishbones and multi-link rear suspension from. Combined with a tiny “front mid mounted” engine, low centre of gravity, rear wheel drive and some very grippy tyres, that gives the car fantastic roadholding and handling. Show it a fast open bend and I guarantee you’ll be smiling from ear to ear. Push it hard in the twisty stuff and slight understeer rapidly turns neutral then into easily controllable oversteer. And that’s with the DSC switched on. It’s so good and so unobtrusive, there’s no point in switching this system off. The brakes are just as fantastic, whether braking hard from maybe 60 – 70 mph into a hairpin, or dropping the anchors from 140 plus on an autostrada. The car doesn’t pitch or unsettle itself. It just slows down by the required amount, or stops completely if that’s what you need." See http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/?id=86 Mazda RX8 Library Photographs: (Click to see larger view
