New member to the "8" addiction
 

So, heres the story. Im 15. Ive been pretty much obsessed with the 8 and the rotary for over a year. These forums have taught me a lot about these beautiful vehicles, so much so that sumtimes i feel like a walking owners manual haha. but anyways...so im sitting in a restaurant eating dinner with my family last night when out of nowhere the waiters/waitresses walk out clapping and singing happy birthday to me, even though i dont turn 16 until February 4. Im kinda used to this thing as my parents and I have always played little pranks on each other. however, when i went cut into the cake i noticed that there was a box in it. I still didnt think much of it until, much to my surprise, i caught a glimpse of that little "switchblade" key. i hit the panic button and went outside to find it. Needless to say i was pretty excited, i dont think ive been that excited since i got my first bike, haha. The only bad thing was that it was late and i didnt have my restricted with me, so my dad had to drive it home and he said i could drive it tomorrow. Basically ive been driving this entire day. Every mile i drive i love this car more and more, from the bucket seats to the red-on-blue gauges. The only bad thing is that it makes my 51 day wait seem so much longer....and that i have to work 6 days a week to cover its cost...anyways its a red 05 MT.......Sorry about the long post, just thought id share my story with yall....&&Thank you all for all of the information on these boards

haha. unfortunately i cant afford to be wreckless, right now im on my dad's insurance, but as soon as i get a ticket or in a wreck, ii have to get my own policy, which im pretty sure i'd be screwed considering i'd only be 16

haha trust me i definitely feel like the luckiest kid in the world. its a good feeling when your friends are coming over jus to see the car. and lokaldisruption, usually when cruising i try to keep the tach under 4...and when accelerating i shift around 5 or a little above..havent got the chance to make it much higher yet as im still getting used to tha car...and btw i live in lake city, FL...about 45 miles north of gainesville where 95 and 10 meet...

Just try to resist showing off for the ladies as that's normally a good way to wreck your car.

I would check into local SCCA autocross events near you which will teach you the limits of the vehicle and help you grow as a driver. Nearly everything I have learned on the track has made me a better driver!

If/when you're ready to start making modifications to the car be sure to do your homework. It will make your money go farther and make sure you get stuff you'll enjoy everyday you drive.

I wish my parents would have bought my RX8 for me. Oh wait...they are poor. And I'm 27. So I guess that option was out.

haha yea i know itll be tempting to show off, but like i said, one wreck and i wont be able to afford my insurance lol....

and as far as the autocross goes, it sounds interesting ill havta check it out

Aftermarket parts- ive been saving for a good while now and have around 2 grand to spend on the car....im not really sure what to get first...ive noticed a few favorites on these boards such as the AFE shifter, the racing beat exhaust and the racing beat intake...i was considering these but the only thing im not sure of is the warranty..the car has a 100k warranty, and im thnking the racingbeat would void this..ive also read somewhere that if you buy mazdaspeed then it doesnt void the warranty..is this true?.

and the parents- luckily im the youngest out of 6 by far, so they are alot more established as far as money goes than they were when my siblings were in the house

so umm random question....lets say i were to shift at 3k all the time...what are the consequences if any?

or say i were to shift say 7k all the time...what are the consequences if any?

like i wana no whats bad about too low of shifting and too high of shifting if that makes since...the way i word things sucks lol

I dont think anythings really wrong with shifting low or high.
Just make sure you redline 2nd gear or any above gear daily.
Keeps carbon from building up.

Don't forget to read the stickies in the tech section so you know how to take car of her.

i know a guy that used to work at the local mazda dealership and he said that the best way to drive your car is drive it like a race car aka red line all the time. driving your car daily isnt bad but shifting at low gears for better mpg or what have you IS bad for your engine, this is all according to him. anyone else can chime in.

congrats on having great parents. My first car was a dodge caravan that I paid for out of my own pocket when I was 15.

Take it easy in the rain if you're on the stock tires, they don't have the best grip in the wet stuff.

I wonder if your dad knew he was drastically increasing your chances of hand jobs and bj's by getting you this car?

wow congrats man! That night must've been really special, sounds like they did a good job with the surprise!!

Just remember to resist the urges to be a retard. I was just like you and always claimed I would be responsible, blah blah until I was 16 and though I was gods gift to driving and got into a very bad accident with my jeep offroading showing off to friends 2 weeks after getting my license.

Be careful and enjoy the car.

Grats and welcome to the club - enjoy the car...comming from someone who started driving in RWD cars, if you drive in the rain be REALLY careful with the RWD, you will lose the back end if you aren't careful while accelerating, and without experience and/or DSC this can be very dangerous.

I recommend taking some of that money and take some driving classes before you start to mod..trust me u will appreciate it!
