New here

Hey guys, a new Mazda and RX-8 memeber here, and I kinda am just wondering which way I should aspirate my vehicle. I have a six speed 2004 yellow RX-8. I already love it to death. I am pretty sure it is the base model; no turning off the DCS or whatever the Traction control system is, No auxillary port (which I want for my iPod or something rather that is real good for it), no nav, no fancy leather. Just real basic and pretty.

Whoever had it before me did some stupid stuff and didn't really fix it back to it's normal self cosmetically. I'll post some pics of the ride and some up close terribles of my car.

And then someone tell me wtf this weird fm tuner is for cuz it's just kinda in my car.

godesshunter 06-22-2012 05:58 AM

Hi and welcome. The "fm tuner" thing you speak of may be an fm modulator for sending ipod sound through radio signal. Its hard to tell without seeing a picture of what your talking about.

As far as the car, read this thread to get an idea of what you're in for.

Welcome, yellow is a rare color, show us some pics, so we can help fix the damage.

monchie 06-22-2012 02:00 PM

Alright, here is everything. And thank you everyone! Btw, changed the avatar to FF8 because I thought it a little strange to have Cloud from 7 when i dont have an RX7.... Whatever I'm a geek!

1st is the tuner. 2nd is car profile, if you look hard enough Door in back is a little darker shade... 3rd poor paint touch up. 4 Poor replacement on bumper... 5 Buffer crazed moron went to hard so some paint is gone and it's a little dull around that spot.

Tailicus 06-22-2012 11:25 PM

Oh and apparently there is another yellow one in the same area I live... I think quite bizzare and now makes me want a blue one... Although Yellow is my favorite of 3 colors. still weird though I think.

That looks like the docking station for either an XM or sirius satellite radio unit

Seeing the compound in the gaps makes me think this car was just out of the body shop. Did you check the history report on it?

BigMikeATL 06-23-2012 10:09 AM

Looks like it was in a body shop and someone did some very poor paint matching.

I agree. It seems the back doors are darker than the rest of the body and the aero pieces are lighter than the rest of the body.

Tailicus 06-28-2012 07:38 PM

Yea it's a Sirius. That's what I thought it was but there was like no device with it, but I had the remote and I can follow the cords the magnetic receiver is at the back behind the glass. But it doesn't do anything since I don't have sirius...

Yea, the history showed no reports and I have the carfax. It was maintained at a regular basis, it just doesn't seem like it was treated as nicely as I would have liked.

And random question, Which oil do you guys usually use? I can't remember but the Manual says it requires a certain type but what brand do you usually use? or seems best.

Hector Castillo 06-28-2012 07:50 PM

Welcome dude! I use castrol 10 30.

SubliminalPollution 06-29-2012 11:30 AM

I agree with everyone saying that it looks like it recently came out of the body shop.

@Tailicus - Tell me you did got a CarFax report.

BigMikeATL 06-29-2012 09:24 PM

I use Valvoline 10w40

Tailicus 06-30-2012 08:17 PM

@SubliminalPollution- Yea i still have it actually. It says no damage report. All they have to do is not report it. Like if they backed into a poll... Kinda sucks but I can fix the damages, luckily I have the ability to save money right now. :)

And thanks for the oil choices.

Car has defiantly been in some sort of accident.
Like others stated, the compound in the gaps, mismatched... practically everything.

Have you ever purchased a used car before?
There are signs all over that thing to not buy it.

I use 10w40 castrol. Preffered specially on hot climate areas, that's what Jiffy Lube recommended me. No problem so far.

Razz1 07-01-2012 12:23 AM

Not all accidents are reported.
It can take 3 months for an accident to show up on Car Fax.

That rear door was damaged and the skirt was replaced.

It was in an accident.

godesshunter 07-01-2012 01:32 AM

Carfax is about as accurate as asking a new girl about past boyfriends. You only get half the story at best. And thats if it was even reported. Don't rely on it as a credible source for valuable info.

EricB 07-01-2012 01:56 AM

yup, friend of a friend bought a car on craigslist with a clean carfax, turns out the owner was drunk and really fucked some shit up, long story short and 9k spent just fixing the car..

Brilliant analogy! I think I'm going to have to use that in the future. ;)

Tailicus 07-31-2012 01:44 AM

Sorry Everyone. I've been gone. Turns out the person before me used 5 w 20 for oil and that really seems to piss me off because it varies a bunch from you guys. I'll be sure and clean that baby out. Nice Shinka Wingznut.
