New headlights for halogens...?
I have the standard halogen headlights and want something that looks white.
I know you can get white halogens, but they aren't as bright. I do not want to do the HID conversion kit because it is expensive and apparently isn't good (fires and such!?). So what are my options. Do I have any? |
I and a lot of other people here have done HID conversions with problems what so ever. There are many conversion kit well under 100 bucks at that. I got my kit off an eBay store and have had it installed for well over a year, only cost me $60.

As far as I've heard, they're way whiter and even brigther than stock. Someone who actually bought them yet should confirm this though.

dude, just get a HID conversion kit, it draws less power, much more reliable than halogen bulbs, cost less than $100, and if you buy from a reputable vendor, they usually give you lifetime warranty on the kit!
with the low price and high quality of HID conversion kits nowadays, going with these overwattage (100w!? you insane??) halogen bulbs just don't make sense. |
Here is a link to the kit i bought. I love them and look great. I have the 6000K.. Yes i have the base model rx8 so i bought the conversion kit..

Good looking lights. How long did it take to install the kit? Were there any particular problems with it?
Thanks. |

No halogen bulb, 100w or not, compares to an HID kit. A decent set of PIAA halogen bulbs run near $75...I got my HID kit for 10 bucks less than that.
|
I'd like to see some pictures of both and compare the two. Where did you get HID kit for $65 btw?
|
Yes, but I've heard of them starting fires?
with my luck recently ( been hit 3 times in 4 months, got broken into last wednesday, and today, had to spend $900 on new tires) I am not sure about the kit, and aren't the HID's themself somewhat expensive? |

What's wrong with 100w? If a bulb gives just as good outcome, is cheaper and just as good visibility, why even bother installing HID kit? It's more work and more expensive :/
and no high wattage bulb will compare to a true HID kit, take the time and effort to install it right and you'll be happy for a long time. |

the 100w bulbs will draw way too much current for your stock headlight wiring and harness, giving it a VERY high risk of of melting wire/harness and/or electrical fire.

^^ yes, I really do not want to do the HID conversion, at least right now. So who have actually seen in person or used the rx8strakes halogen replacements? Do they look different enough from stock to make it worth it? and are they as bright as stock if not brighter? (100w, bc 55w I assume would be not as bright)

Anyone who actually experienced that or are they just assumptions?

An HID draws 35W compared to the 100W halogen bulb you're talking about...what assumption? 35 is less than 100, simple. The higher the voltage the more likely the stock wiring could not handle the extra heat...burnt wires and fire are likely. |

I got my kit from HID4U, they are power sellers on eBay that carry Xentec HID ballasts and bulb kits. I know a lot of people are hesitant about buying such kits from eBay but like I said earlier I have had this kit installed for over a year with no problems what so ever. I even bought another of their kits for my wife's Civic Si, no problems there either.
How much did you spend on the kit? How much does a good set of HIDs even cost? |

I've seen it personally when running 100W bulbs directly wired into the factory wiring. I worked for a pro race team last year and we had a night race to set up for...we used 100W PIAA bulbs and they were great for about an hour of constant use until they burnt out. We later found the rest of the damage after the race when noticed the burnt power wires going to the bulbs. Point is HID are very inexpensive these days and are a hell of lot more stable when installed properly.

I paid just under $70 shipped. I installed them myself which took me about 45 mins from start to finish.
I am curious, I know you need the kit, but what does it do. What do the HID lights do/need that is so different from regular old halogens? |
Alex, check this site out it gives the info you want...
http://www.xtralights.com/index.asp?...on=Custom&ID=5 Also, as for your color choice, you want 6000K. |

I'm running 10000K, I do like my blue lights! haha
Hope that site site got you the answer you were looking for. |
That ebay seller, HID4U, can't seem to find him. was the kit called anything weird? like so I can find the one that worked well for you.
