Hello all,

In a similar situation, looking at the 09 R3 for purchase. One concern i have is the flooding, is that something that has gotten better over the years or it is still a prevelant problem? I do some short drives consistantly (gym, publix, ect...) but the majority of the time it is 20+ minute drives. The fact that i HAVE to redline once a day is more of a bonus than anything else, and i really think it is the most car for the money, that r3 has everything you could ever want. That all being said, i would be pretty livid if i drove my new car to the gym and it flooded as is now stuck in the Parking lot...

I bought a '04 8 back in Oct '03. I've had nothing but problems with this car. Luckily, I was in the midwest and the dealership didn't try and rip me off. They fixed a lot of things for free even if it wasn't covered. The socal ones would have, esp Santa Maria Mazda. Avoid them. Right after my warranty expired, my engine flooded. The gas is killing me. Just dropped another $500 on new tires. But other than that, I LOVE DRIVING IT. It's not fast off the line but it's a motorcycle, great at high rpms and corners like no other. If you don't mind a little hassle for some fun, the 8's your car.

no worries on the 09 all problems have been fixed, flooding usually happens to the 04 and 05s....but no worries if you bring it up to temp

Thanks for the info guys. Funny thing is in 05 i was looking at getting one also, but was deterred by battery and engine issues. I think that r3 is for me, just going to kill me on gas, but driving it is just too fun.

I have an 05 and never flooded it...even after backing it out of the garage and shutting it off and then starting it again....never an issue. Usually if I do this, I rev it up to like 3-4K and turn it off at the same time. Not like I make it a habit of doing this...but seriously people need to get over this whole flooding issue. Its not as big of deal as people are making it out to be. Also this being an RX8 forum....you are bound to hear all the issues with the car. Just like any other car...they all have issues.
