Welcome aboard.

For the engine, I would start with coils and plugs. I went with BHR based on their solid reputation and solution. Most of the other things you can do to the engine are expensive and don't offer much (if anything) in return, so I chose to enjoy what it offers as-is instead of wanting to mod it further. Besides, a relatively unmolested car is easier to sell if and when that time comes.

My car has the MazdaSpeed CAI that the previous owner installed. In the pinned topics, I see that it's one that doesn't reduce power, so that's good. Others don't help and often sap power.

Mine also has aftermarket wheels and 245 summer tires. It does stick like a cat on velcro, but I don't track the car so I don't know how well it would do when driven at ten tenths. I do know that it hydroplanes noticeably in the wet. I got caught in a thunderstorm on a 65 mph road and thought it might be a good idea to add a rudder to the car :)
