New engine, wondering if i should do a tune up...

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering what they actually changed or serviced after they replace the old motor. Do they use the old spark plugs and coils, tranny and dif fluids, etc? My chassis has 91k miles and the engine has 5k, and under normal circumstances, i am pretty sure that it's recommended to have the RX serviced at around this time.

Another thing I wanted to ask is if the coolant should be filled to the top of the reservoir. When the motor was replaced (I was in Scotland) my father said that the overheating light would come on and I noticed it too when i returned. Mazda told me that a sensor might be faulty, which I understand, so just in case I fill the reservoir all the way. But after about 250 miles, there's only half left in the top part of the reservoir, and my father said it could be that the coolant could be precipitating because of the amount of heat the motor expels. Should I assume that there's something wrong or am I just filling up the tank too much? :scratchhe

Thanks for the help guys!

best way is to have new coils and plugs when you have a new engine. call whoever replaced your engine to find out.

if you fill over to the top it would just come out the overflow tube down onto your power steering sockets and damage the isolation which would cause power steering malfunction later.
theres lines on the side of the reservoir says H and L, should between these two lines. you sure its overheating light or low coolant light? replacing the reservoir can solve the problem.

If you are referring to remanufactered motors here in the U.S. at the Mazda rebuild facility in Virginia, it is my understanding that the Mazda repair manual tolerances are the guidance to the rebuild. Typically in any engine rebuilding process, items are measured and replaced accordingly. For the Renesis engines, the typical longer term wear HARD items are the rotor housings. Worn housings can prevent stronger compression and therefore power. Consumable items such as gaskets, springs and seals are used. Bearings are often worn with higher mileage motors and replaced. The eshaft and rotors are reused. The front cover is reused. The timing chain is most likely replaced (it's cheap) as well as the oil pump. I suspect fuel injectors are reused as they are expensive. The Denso injectors are very good and we've found them to rarely have problems. Motors that see lots of high rpm use can have iron wear due to rotor tip wobble. This leads to compression loss. Iron wear is easy to measure and this service is documented in the stock Mazda engine repair manual.
