Front Brake Pads Replaced, but still have squealing?!
Hey guys, went through the search to find some answers, Not sure if i got what i needed. There is a service bulletin for 04-06 RX-8 front brake pads to be replaced if the car experiences squealing. I've squealing since 3700 miles. Yesterday i had 6K mi on them, really annoyed me to this point......Brought the car to the dealer for them to check it out. Rode with the tech, he also said it was the Front Brake pads. Got them replaced.....drove home last night and this morning.....EEEEEEE haha.......still squeals like a pig!
My question is, should i let the pads break themselves in for maybe 200-500 miles before i call the dealer again (considering i do 90% highway driving and rarely use the brakes except for exit ramps)??
I also notice the brakes tend to squeal during below freezing temps. On days that are actually 40F, i rarely hear it. Anyone have their front brakes replaced from the TSB and still experience squealing??
I dont mind the squealing on ocassion but it throws off the people in my car and other people in their cars look at me like hmm u need brakes haha and the people in my car are like man what do u do, ride your brakes hard??

Hi
I had my pad changed with the TSB but now ( after 25 000 KM ) everything still ok. Some times when it is really cold outside ( like -25 celcius ) I hear " EEEEEEEEEEEE " but it's normal when pad ans rotor are cold.

I had mine done last summer and they were great all summer. This winter they're squealing again. Oh well. I hope the squeal ends when the warmer weather arrives!

I would of thought the brakes were bed when the tech swap the pads.....agh....maybe i should of watch them.
i think i'm going to go for a few more hundred miles, see how it goes.....before gettin the dealer to check em out again. If anything, it'll be documented so if i have any squeals again, its from the updated pads.
anyways can't really complain too much, got new pads at 6K haha, not like i was going through them by then.
I know their perf pads and they tend to squeal but my passengers dont believe me haha. Thanks guys!

Swoope! Thanks a lot for that info! I never did it with the stock pads nor have i done it with the updated pads. cause of the fact i've done a lot of highway driving (rarely use the brakes). I guess this weekend, i'm going to have to figure out where to go to go up 60MPH and then hit the brakes and slow down to 10. and then zoom back up. That was some incredible info there. I never really bed in brakes before because my other commutes were always stop and go, plus i never owned a sports car with performance brakes. Some good info! Thanks a million.
. I love this site.

Yeah, search brings me a lot of unrelated topics though, search for "front brake pads replaced"....doesn't even bring me close to how to tips on bed in brakes. Note how I said i searched (in the orginal post) but didnt seem to find answers. I already knew about the TSB on the front brakes but was looking for answers if anyone had squeaking issues after the front pads were replaced. Searched and browsed through a few topics, probably for an hour and change and got tired. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, it is a forum after all.

My 06 RX-8 GT AT is going in on Monday to have the front brakes replaced. I find that when I do a hard brake they don't squeal, but when I am just doing a regular brake to a stoplight or in stop and go traffic on the freeway the really make noise. Kinda embarassing to have such a beautiful car making that kind of noise! I'll let you know how things are after the work is done.

Finally the dealer agreed to come for a ride so I could damn well show him. Annnnnnnnnnd it poured rain that day and you could hardly hear it. They said to come back when it wasn't raining. Well this was in October and I got busy, didn't hear it as much (in the summer it was daily) and now the cold, ironically, has eased the problem. In fact I was pretty sure the worst squeal days before were hot hot summer days.
Anyway, when the weather gets warmed if it comes back I'll head in. Kudos on getting your dealer to respond.
Just how long do brake pads last under normal driving conditions with the occasional RX8 thrashing we all do from time to time? By the time I get back into the dealer with a clear squeal they're liable to say it's just normal brake where. Sigh.

Mine squeaked and I decided it just wasn't worth bothering the dealer about. Since I knew that performance brakes sometimes squeaked, I just chalked it up to a minor annoyance. It went away after about 15k.

if you have had the problem and have not done it you must release the pads and scrape the dust out of the groove in the middle of the pad..

Took my 8 in today. Got a call and was told the replaced the front brakes. Asked them if they "bed-in" the brakes and the service manager didn't know what I meant so I faxed over a copy of the article from zeckhausen racing. She called me back later and told me she showed the copy to the mechanic and he told he that is what he did when he put on the new brakes (we'll see!) I am cautiously optimistic, but I'll let you know. BTW, they gave me a mazda6 as a loaner. Not a bad little sport sedan.
