New engine

Hi,
I’ve just bought Mazda RX-8 2005 with replaced engine by Mazda on 2010. Former owner told me this Engine is new generation (2nd) and just wander if this is true or even possible. I’ve tried to search on google part number to find any information but without any results.
Is any way to check this?
On Invoice part number is: JN3H302200
Thanks

Chances are 99.99999% you have a s1 engine in there, some people just think when it is replaced that they put the newer one in and that's not the case. There is a thread in the s2 section about what it takes to install an s2 engine and it is a ton of work. If it was done at the dealer then you know its an s1 engine.

Yeah you most definitely have a S1 engine. I doubt the previous owner went through all the trouble to get a S2 engine installed on the car. Like xexok said there is a lot of work involving that, including ecu, fuel injectors, and such.

Yup, yes, correct

And because I'm in a good mood I won't yell at you to search
