New and Bought an RX-8

7 Attachment(s)
Well I'm new here and figure to join a forum. I bought my Mazda RX-8 yesterday since the price was right for an 2007 Grand Touring 6 speed manual, white with 23,000 miles on it for $15 so I couldn't say no. Before I go on I'm a almost complete noob when it comes to mazda or the rotary engine I was watching a bunch of videos on youtube last night on how they work. For me I think it's crazy how Japan created such a work of art. I hope to get as much advise as possible. I used to own a 2008 Chevy Cobalt SS/NA, it was nice automatic and the gas mileage was great but wreck it (a nasty wreck), lawsuit in progress, will give the full story when it ends. I have been addicted to this car, love the way it feels, drives so comfortable, you can hammer it hard in the RPM area. This ride is way faster than that cobalt so I'm glad to buy such a great car. I see a lot of changes coming since I'm use to working with ecotecs. If any of you have advice let me know. I didn't forget about the pics:

Welcome.

Read the first 9 posts in the first thread in my signature. Lots of information for you there. All the basics and warning points grouped together for some easy reading.

If you plan on modding you 8 at all, then the first 11 posts of the 2nd link in my sig is writen in a similar style regarding how mods affect our 8.

Also, your 8 appears to have an interior swap from a prior owner I think. I don't think the red and black interior came with white, only red or black. I could be wrong though.

I think so to about the interior swap, I'm sure the previous owner may have been possibly on this forum or a different one and did a swap with someone lol. Anyways I just got done reading your threads on taking care of 8. I don't really plan on modifications this time around, after learning from my pervious car when I had a supercharger bolted in, intake, exhaust system, tuned, front and rear sways and the track springs I only got back $1,500 for those parts which I paid way more for them all. So this time I just want to maintain it and keep it for a long time. It looks great and I grab way more attention than my pervious one, it's sad to say but I do become emotionally attach to any car.

Nice car, Welcome to the RX8 club enjoy the ride

It was an option back then so it probably wasn't a swap.

Welcome to the club and enjoy the ride. By the way, you picked the best color on the rx8. ;)

pistonhater 09-23-2012 04:17 PM

Congrats on the car. It has very low miles for that year model. The price seems right as well.

But get your facts right. It was a German who invented the rotary engine, then the Japanese took it to the next level by doing shit loads of research, testing, design, so that i could eventually be adapted for what it is today, LOL.

I like the white/red combo:D:

Leonheart 09-23-2012 09:12 PM

Thanks, yeah I guess I got the right color then lol. Oh ok so it was the Germans that started. Still I love this car, Now my next thing would be to see if there's any meets in Austin TX. Man one thing I have to say is the hardest so far is getting it into reverse lol. But no other complaints about the car, there was a seat belt buckle issue but I took care of it, one of the springs jammed.

ShellDude 09-23-2012 09:18 PM

A regular screwdriver wrapped with electrical tape can rid you of that dealer badge in no time at all.

Welcome to the club!

Leonheart 09-24-2012 01:56 AM

haha yeah sure I'll do that, I know it's a bit of a draw back to have a 6 disc CD changer with no AUX but I think I can live with that. I'm just blown away by the BOSE surround sound, it makes my pervious ride like a standard RCA from walmart to Yamaha THX. I guess the next thing would be what kind of oil should I put in Sync or regular?

Slidin8 09-24-2012 02:08 AM

The bose sound system is pretty average to be honest lol

i cant imagine how terrible the sound system was in your last car haha

Or just using some fishing line and be on the safe side.

adamwzl 09-24-2012 01:36 PM

+1 on the fishing line, and you got your car for $15 damn.. i wouldn't of said no either.

P.S welcome to the addiction. The mods you possibly look into are more reliability mods such as BHR coils, mazmart water pump/thermostat, oil catch can, etc. Best all around mods are suspension and good set of tires.

djfa 09-24-2012 01:38 PM

take a hair dryer. Heat it up nicely then take a screwdriver with electric tape. The residue thats all stuck and gummy can be cleaned with gasoline. Job well done

even better! I like the hair dryer idea too... just don't bake the paint too much.... not sure I'd use gasoline either.

adamwzl 09-24-2012 01:56 PM

Id use "Goof Off", then wash + wax the car afterwards

Leonheart 09-24-2012 04:32 PM

Yep all I did was took the seat belt buckle apart with a screw driver didn't really scratch the seat belt or anything. Man now I'm looking for auto insurance, any advice in that area? Also just found out about the key being inside the remote, man they really do think of everything. I was at a fast food diner when someone came up to me and said "Is that your car?" I said "yeah man", He then told me "I never seen one of those before" kinda scares me a bit lol. Man after looking at all the mods you can do, I'm starting to see maybe an intake would do some good.

York 09-24-2012 05:22 PM

heh, an intake would do very little. Some even reduce performance.

+1 on picking the best color! And yeah I have white with the black/red interior too so it was definitely an option on the 2006 also! Welcome to the club.
oh and they do sell AUX input modules you can install yourself without too much effort. I have both ipod and aux input installed in mine and use it ALL the time. Best mod ever :worship:

I guess it wouldn't be worth it to get one then. Alright, yeah your 8 looks awesome too, liking the black rims. I was also looking some drift videos for the 8, man this car can go sideways so easily. I did some autocrossing when I had my cobalt ss and still getting use to FR, been driving FF for 4 years lol. I guess they sell them on ebay or something lol. What kind of mod is that for the AUX?

adamwzl 09-24-2012 07:09 PM

look into grom audio for the aux input

I think they did for white as well, I've seen a few.
Plus they're the 06+ seats. They don't have the marks on the sides or plastic backs like seats from 04-05.

Hector Castillo 09-24-2012 10:04 PM

welcome to the club man nice car!

kjb 09-25-2012 03:49 AM

The 8 is one of those rare cars that I'd recommend to the right kind of person, one who "gets it". That happened a year or so ago, when a friend asked me about them. He's put 30,000 miles on his now and loves the car. I don't drive nearly that much and have four cars, but when I want to have fun, I always take the 8...even if I'm just running to the store.

It gets bonus points for the fact that not many people know about it and you can find them for a reasonably low price. I generally don't keep a car for very long, but this is one that is a keeper. For the money, you won't find anything comparable.

Congrats on the find. If you understand the car, it's one that you'll want to keep.

Leonheart 09-25-2012 06:50 PM

Thanks man, I'm getting a better idea now of understanding the 8 and how to keep up with it thanks to this forum. When I reach 30,000 miles I'm gonna start with giving her, her first maintence check also my next fill up I'll go ahead and check the oil too see if I need to put in any extra. Like I said start now I'm sure I can make it last 200,000+ miles. Wanted to add I finally have insurance on the car lol. Oh does anyone know if it's ok to put HID's on your fog lights? Or should I just use LED H11's instead?
