New advice on buy
 

Hey all, I've been on the forums actively for almost a year now. I don't drive and 8, but I want one badly. Currently, I drive a V6 06' Mazda6(enough 6's?). Anyway, what do you guys think of the deal in this link? Would you recommend it?

I had mine apprasied the other day and they offered 9200 as a trade in...very similarly equipped, except mine has the spoiler and rotary accents, similar mileage (that was right about at blue book value). Im not sure how much they tend to mark them up for resale, but you might be able to get them closer to 12k, and if you look at this car, Id make sure all the recalls/re-flashes have been done and id definietly make sure a compression test was done on the engine since it is an '04 to ensure it is putting out all of its power.

+1 on making sure all the TSB's and recalls have been done for the car. A compression test would be very good too.

So really if the carfax shows recalls done, then years really dont make a difference?

And sorry I'm such a noob at this, but anything at all will help =)

Seems ok to me. It's not a steal but very fair.

Price dropped. Apparently it isnt selling. I would offer them 10-11k and see what they say. I would also grab the VIN and go to your local Mazda dealer and ask them if any TSB's are open for that VIN. If there are use them as an advantage saying you will need to give the car to Mazda for x amount of days(1 day a TSB to make it look inconvenient). Offer low and be firm. The worst thing you can do is let them tell you what you are paying for it. Dont be afraid to walk away, most of the time they will call you back to try and make a deal. If you have cash, thats a big plus. Money talks, bullshit walks.

another question. Is it worth getting a later model?

I just got myn about 2 months ago and i first saw an 04 in my town for sale, and almost bought it on the spot, then i read all of the bad reviews, and im not saying that everyone is bad but all of the problems convinced me to look for an 06, and i used cars.com and found it 500 miles from me haha (im in ND)

So would the bugs be recalled by now you think? And how much did you pay for yours?

A lot of issues where taken care of by TSB's. Some other problems are not really problems, just annoyances(like the milky substance on the dip stick). If you are looking to buy an 04, grab the VIN and go to a Mazda dealer, explain you are looking to purchase the vehicle and ask if there are any open TSB's.
I have an 04 and love it. I would have prefered an 06 but couldnt find one in my price range at the time. As G.I. Joe said "And knowing is half the battle" Know the issues, see if they have been fixed, if not then weigh the pros/cons and try to get more money off.

The only warranty you would have is the lemon law(depending on state) and the 8yr/100k mile engine core warranty. If any rotorhead lives near you or the seller, see if they can stop by with/for you and give it a spin.

i paid 14400 for my 06, but i got a hell of a deal so it just depends

i recommend getting an automatic. they are cheaper and you can spend the savings on modding it.

I've got a 6spd shiftable auto. right now in my mazda 6. The v6 is powerful, and i love it, but it's time for a manual. Frankly, I want to feel my car. When I mess up, the car messes up. When I do well, it applies there to. The supposed"bolt action" feeling of the shifting has sold me. Why lose hp when I can mod a manual just as easy.

Please dont see this as a flame, I respect auto just as much, shoot, i drive one myself. It's just time for me to move on to something more exciting. If I'm going to drop money on this awesome piece of sports car, then i want all i can get. Also, auto have more maintenance issues, and this car doesnt need more of those.

auto's aren't "shiftable". you don't engage the gears with those paddles.

I have driven an 2004 Mazda 6, they got a bit more pep then the 8 from what I could tell. But my 8 is an overall win. It isnt too fast but it catches heads.


Dealers are willing to do anything nowadays to get some money.

automatic is way better dude. you get instant shifts, and way more torque. plus you dont have to take your hands off the wheel so handling is vastly improved. plus the lower redline makes the engine sound more like a chevy which is way better.

I am literally tearing up from the last line. Haven't lol'd like that in a while. Thanks man =)

But really, I don't want to turn this in to a hate auto thread, because I like them too. Try not to hijack me ;)

I've got the 6 port v6 sport-auto right now. It definitely has pep.

But the 8 has glide =).
