New 40th Here...

Hey Guys,

Purchased my 40th two months ago. 08' (obviously) with 13k miles. I have wanted one of these cars for a long time and figured that the timing was right. Been reading the forums everyday at work, so much, that my co workers are sick of hearing about it. I've read through all the links recommended to the new owners. In fact i have had many laughs reading the same old questions over and over from people who don't take the time to do any searching. Anyway, car has been great, i love making any excuse just to get behind the wheel. So far so good... I may have bough it, but this car already owns me! So here are a couple pics, thanks...

Welcome from one 40th Anniversary owner to another. Great choice. Bought mine new in 2008, still love it. (It is my seventh rotary car).

BTW don't park over grass if you have driven the car for a ways. Rotary exhausts will reach higher temps than a piston car's. You don't want to start a fire, it has happened !

Enjoy the car .

Welcome. Hope you enjoy your 40th as much as I do. Like having your feet on the ground handling.

Good tip! :)
Doesn't have to be a rotary though.
Have seen it happen to many a vehicle, especially if the grass is brown, dead, or dying. :nono:

Oh..........and OP.......Welcome to the addiction! You are already ahead of the game!

Indeed!!!

OP: You probably know Mazda only brought a limited number of these cars to the US. Yours seems to be in great shape, and with such low miles you really scored good!

Enjoy!

I am curious, what did you pay for your 40th Anniversary Edition with 13k miles ?

Wingznut 08-14-2011 08:13 AM

Love the 40th! Congrats!

I too, am curious as to how much you picked it up for. For quite a while, I was searching for either a 40th or a Shinka, but the Anniversary editions were well going for ~23k around here.

Thanks for the reminder about the grass, that day i just moved it to the shade to wax it; following all the warm up procedures, of course!
I picked the car up for just under 20k. I had been looking for a while, wanted a shinka but there were just none in the area. Then i saw the interior of the 40th and that was it, went back and picked it up the same week. Have been loving it ever since.
I was curious if anyone knows about how many 40ths were actually sold in the US?

Funny, your story is very similar to mine. After test driving a Shinka I started considering getting one - although I was looking for an R3 at the time. Loved the color and unique interior of the Shinka. Couldn't find any in my area. The only one I found in NY had a "fishy" Carfax report with serious mileage discrepancies over the years and other unclear service records, plus it was selling for $20K with 32K miles "as is." Then I test drove a 40 AE and started considering one as well. But the ones available were way over the $20K with lots of miles.

Then I found my 40th AE, with the same amount of miles like yours for about the same price. Like you, I paid just under $20K and the car came with Mazda Pre-Owned Certification. Overall, mine was in excellent shape minus some cosmetic blemishes on the bumpers (typical road rash) and wheels. Seems like the previous owner didn't know how to park:uh: And I've added a few more scratches of my own ever since :D:

But your car looks like in perfect cosmetic condition on the photos!!!

Get used to getting lots of compliment on the interior. Many people compliment RX-8s overall, which is a great thing. But when you open the door, people really seem to like the Cosmo Red interior a lot!!!!!!

pistonhater 08-15-2011 04:58 PM

Also, I believe they brought about 1,000 of these to the US

8ownsme 08-17-2011 12:59 PM

Yeah, i was hoping to find a less expensive 8, but the low miles and great overall condition sold me. I also planned on using it as my daily driver, but seeing as the miles add up fast and winter is coming, i'm finding myself in the market for some junker.

I'm getting used to people giving comments about the car. I passed a guy the other day in an old mazda and he gave me a thumbs up.
