New 40th AE Owner!
2 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and have been looking into getting at RX-8 for about a month now. I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a beautiful 40th AE with only 16k miles on it. As for my background- I just graduated from Virgina Tech in mechanical engineering and finally got a job. In high school, I had a 79 RX-7 that I rebuilt the engine and restored, so I'm pretty familiar with how rotaries operate and their quirks. I'm not planning on doing many mods to this car since it's my new DD. I have looked into the BHR ignition and RB intake/ exhaust as possibilities though. Anyway, glad to be a part of the community, there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people on here! I attached a few crappy phone pics- I'll add better ones tomorrow. :beer05: -Brendon |

Welcome to the 40 AE club:p: Not very many of these cars out there.
Get used to people complimenting the interior color- at least that's what happens to me each time I give a ride to somebody:D: Mine also has similar mileage ;) |
Love the 40 AE... Second only to the '05 Shinka. :eyetwitch
Congrats! |
Welcome to the club. Any future mods in mind?

Nice purchase. Congratulations on graduating and getting the new job. Welcome to the club.

Hey welcome to the 40th Anniversary Edition Group. There were only 1000 of these special (US version) 40th Anniversary Editions made with Metropolitan Gray mica exterior and Cosmos red interior. Japan had 200 of a white colored version of the 40th Anniversary edition, with white and black interior colored seats. Europe got another 200 of the white ones. But i think the US version is the best looking, especially those seats, which, like pistonhater said, will get you compliments from everyone.
I have used a fine product that will help protect from salt between washings. It is the polymer NuFINISH. It can be found at all auto stores. Put on one easy coat and then a second coat within 30 days, and it will last an entire year (no joke) of protection. I have owned seven rotaries since 1973 , driven a million miles in rotaries through all kinds of weather, road and track, and now have a 40th Anniversary Edition RX8. I have used this on all my RXs since it first came out years ago, and it works !! Hey my 40th Anniversary Edition even won a second-place trophy in car show competition this year with it's great NuFinish shine that had been applied months earlier. I have used all kinds of waxes over the years, some great Canubas, but this nufinish is not a wax , and will outlast any expensive wax, and lasts and lasts through winter and all its salt. I live in the northeast (New Jersey) and have lived in, D.C., New York, and Connecticut , spend a lot of time in Vermont also, and I have winter tested this stuff and it is great. Especially if your car is going to be parked outside, use this Nu Finish and along with some occasional spray offs or washings (as Pistonhater said above) your finish will last like new. BTW the NuFinish will last through a year of regular car washings, even machine washings. No wax , however expensive ,can stand up to that. |
Welcome to the 40th club! Had mine for 5 months now, and loving every minute. Good luck with it, looks like it's in great condition!
|
Welcome! I have owned my 40th for 18 months and have 25,000 miles on it now.
We also own a 79 RX-7 that we are very slowly restoring... |

40th AE... I'm jealous!!! That interior is sooooo nice!
|
Thanks everybody
I could not be happier with my purchase- I love every second of driving it. I grew up in New England, so I have seen what winters do to cars up there, I'll definitely try NuFinish. |
^ Consumer Reports had some nice things to say about Nu Finish in their November issue, where both liquid (rated #2 out of 12) and paste (rated #1 out of 7) scored high in their ratings of car wax:
"Other findings: Two moderatedly priced waxes, Nu Finish NF-76 and 3M One Step Cleaner Wax, performed better than some products costing much more. And overall, liquid waxes performed as well as paste waxes, with the best liquids providing better shine on faded paint." Nu Finish NFP-80 (paste) had excellent durability and left little or no residue on plastic parts. Nu Finish NF-76 (liquid) rated Very Good for durability, but gloss improvement was not as good as with other liquids, and it left some residue on plastic." I'll have to try some. |

Just turned 40,000 fun miles on my 40th AE. You are gonna love the suspension.

Well, right now the engine still runs strong, but it does have the dowel pin leak so a rebuild in in its future. I'd love to rebuild it but I'm sure it will need engine parts that are no longer available. OTHO, getting rid of the old points and condensor distributer will be nice.
