"never seen that one..."

Well, I stopped by the store to pick up some dinner on my way home earlier and just happened to walk out to my car about the same time as the guy in the silver/gray G35 coupe that happened to be parked next to me. I said "nice car," " thanks" he said, "what's that one, I've never seen one of those." "Well it's a Mazda RX-8, fun car" I replied. "Hmm, looks fun, I'm behind the times a little bit I guess" he said.

I like driving a car that is not exactly commonplace like say my saturn SL, but I'm still surprised how many people have never seen or heard of our car. Does mazda purposefully not do much marketing or are they trying to keep it rare or a secret, or what's the deal? I wasn't really sure what to think about that encounter with the G35 owner.

Maybe the fellow was a bit clueless because I've seen the advertisements in all sorts of magazines, TV commmercials, TV programs (ie Fear Factor) and it was used as a pace car. But I wouldn't say that the media is saturated compared to advertisments for Ford, Dodge (anything HEMI powered), etc. I guess the RX8 isn't the big money maker for Mazda ... you see a heck of a lot more Mazda 3 and 6 ads, probably because they move more of those than anything else.

I still get people not knowing what my WRX is. The average person just doesn't care much about cars, they look at them as being a means to an end and little else. This would explain why there are so many Chevy Malibus and Cavaliers on our streets.

He was driving a G35....what did you really expect him to know?

Sorry....I didn't say that, did I?
