Need help with "ticking" Sound..
Need help with "ticking" Sound..
As Described, when turning at a sharp angle,..imagine how you would have the wheel if you coming off an offramp at about 40..,I hear a clicking noise..as if somthing has broken, or snapped loose, its only when turning the wheel to the right..It has never occured on the left side..I was curious if anyone knows what it might be?
Sounds like the wheels could use cleaning and re-torquing. See the following:

Great link! I have a follow up question. I think I heard a ticking/clicking noise on Saturday when creeping through a parking light and getting feedback from a nearby building. I"ve noticed my left front wheel gets a good 50% more brake dust on it than the right front. Would this also be an indication of the problem described in that link? Thanks much.
Hmmm - I don't know about the extra brake dust. I guess its conceivable that the ticking results in sharp little vibrations that knocks the brake dust loose from the calipers/pads/etc., but that's probably a stretch.
It would be a good idea if you perform the cleaning and re-torquing described in the above link. While you have the wheels off, carefully measure the brake pad thickness with a calipers. If the left side is worn more than the right, I'd take it to the dealer to get checked out.

Some questions for ya,
What sise of wheels do you have? and can they be rubbing?
Are you under warranty?
Is this abnormal noise from the engine area? or right side/wheel(s)?
hmmm, we dont have steering pumps on these cars since it is ALL ELECTRIC with no fluid so that was a horrible guess. Hopefully the car is still under warranty, I dont think anybody on this forum has gone over their warranty period yet(now voided is another story).

I would guess its you steering pump. If and when under stress it may some times make a ticking sound.

I had the same thing
My car is going into the shop tomorrow (9/28/04) to have it's annoying ticking noise diagnosed, as well as getting a 3rd glove compartment pistol put in (They could have done better on that one). I'll let you know what they find out.
Best guess was a loose swaybar, but they WERE guessing at that point.

There's a TSB for the ticking sound when turning (see one of the early posts). I had the same problem (only when I turned to the right). Brought the car in and handed them the TSB, they did what it said, and no more ticking. I would hear the ticking sound mostly at low speeds when turning a sharp corner. That's the first thing they should try.

Ticking noise solved
This is an odd answer. I ran the car low on oil (No! NOT OUT OF OIL!, JUST LOW!) When I added oil, ticking noise went away.
And as to how many glove compartment pistons I need, looks like about 1 every 5000 miles. Manufacturing defect I guess.
