need help after changing coils

I took things apart to swap out the coils but they took a bit to get here. Over that time i cleaned the throttle body and found a loose battery connection which i tightened back up. Now the coils arrived and i put it all back together and it wont rev. It starts just fine but the CEL and dsc lights are on and pressing the gas does NOTHING.

I have no idea whats wrong, can anyone help me?

Are you sure you connected everything correctly?

I may have freaked a little too much. I disconnected the battery for a few seconds and the reconnected it. Started the car and it ran fine with the exception of the dsc light staying on and the switch doing nothing. Tried the back and forth wheel thing and it didnt work but i may have done it wrong.

Im going to take a breath and look at it again in the morning. A quick rip around the block told me it's running just fiiiiiiinnnnneee. Although new coils doesnt seem to have given me more power like i hoped.

Thanks guys!

^Good idea!

Could you explain your power loss? Is it actual power, or butt-dyno?

Butt dyno!

i was hopong that since it was at least 35K since i could track the possibility of ignition components being replaced that swapping them out would show a benefit. I just got the car a few weeks ago and the guy i got it from did nothing, but said the guy before him did a "refresh" at 85K. Even if he did coils its been a bit so changing them was good either way. A longer drive tomorrow will reveal more.

Loss of power could be blamed on a lot of things. If you haven't done so yet, please read this thread https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

Oh yeah i am totally familiar with that thread! I dont have a loss of power per se, more like a hope i had more to gain from a tune up. Either way the issues i started this thread over are mostly fixed so thanks for the help. I appreciate the effort of you taking the time to chime in. You were the only one!

you need to turn the wheel all the way to the right until it locks, then the left until it locks then back again. turn car off wait a few seconds and turn they key back on the light should go out.

since you disconnected the battery you'll need to relearn the PCM probably. you could try the NVRAM brake stomp reset too. Then you need to do a drive cycle to have it relearn everything and be happy again.

By the next morning everything bad had settled out and the car has been driving fine. The only "new" thing left is my immobilizer light now flashes when the car is off. Some posts say its normal and other posts attempt to stop it. Since the car works fine i didn't go too deep into troubleshooting it. There's also the chance that i just never noticed it before and it's been flashing the whole time.

I have only had the car a month or so and i'm still learning it's nuances. Like i never noticed the climate control was broken until it was nice and hot the other day and my foot was on fire from full on heat at highway speeds! Thanks to this great site i had it apart and fixed in an hour.

Well, yes and no. That issue remains a mystery to me.

I believe the manual does seem to indicate that a flashing light might be a sign of something wrong with the system.

Mine seems to flash randomly. Went for an oil change the other day at the local dealer and I asked them to check the system and reprogram the smart keys accordingly. They said everything is working perfectly fine.

Light still flashes.
