Need help

My rx8 simply will not start, I've tried everything I can with respect to the battery and that's not the issue. I can hear the belts turning but it dosentirely seem like anything else is happening. I've tried de-flooding twice and that's not the issue either. I smell gas when I'm trying to start it. It doesn't even seem like the car is attempting to start, just the belts move. Also when you release the ignition it sounds like you're shutting off some futuristic shit. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

In order to help you the most, you need to be more specific about your issue. As well, you need to list down your cars year, trans, mileage, mods and last maintenance.

However, I highly recommend you shoot over to the troubleshooting subforum and read the starting issues, START HERE sticky

If you smell gas.. it's flooded.

Take out the plugs. Let it air out.
go buy new plugs.

Then order some bhr colis.

Pretty much what Razz said, but if you can't afford BHR coils, you can get some from the place you buy the plugs to get you around for a short while (some ppl have had luck with the warranties on the store brands and replacing them every 10-15k miles). Then save up for the BHR's. That is just a start, after you get it running again, go where Soldier linked and make sure there are not more costly issues.

won't start

Generally speaking coils don't all go out at the same time check and see if your getting a good spark first. Second check fuel pressure. Also a failure of the apex seals can cause this if the compression is below 3 bars.also note the cranking speed is it faster or slower than normal. Faster would indicate a compression issue slower means it's probably loading up on fuel and flooding normal would lean more toward no spark.

Yall... I've fallen for a lemon and can't get up

Pulled off the lot with my 04 RX-8 a little over two years ago and it's been a roller coaster ride since then. Transmission had a huge crack in it,faulty power steering had me thinking my car was possessed, wiring overall was atrocious, harnesses that were dissected taped back together now busting open, battery cover looks like someone was chewing on it and doesn't fit like it should, not to mention I've got only the top half of my air filter box and its supported by a slab of metal that's drilled into the frame...

Needless to say I need help. It's my first purchase (obviously) and I just can't seem to get myself to get rid of it. I've done all the maintenance (aside from the transmission replacement) from day one. And the reason I taught myself the basic maintenance procedures is because I was tired of going back and forth to the dealership and handing them money even after my car was paid for. Didn't seem logical. Like adding injury to insult.

Anyway, with all that being said, I need help with making the decision to keep my little Frankinstein or to fit rid of it. I've grown fond of the car and the hobby it gave me but I don't know if I'll ever get to actually enjoy it. Plus, I don't even know where to actually begin with a restoration... Just been keeping it running lately.

Fwiw, with the exception of those who buy brand new cars, it seems most who get rid of their 8s miss them.

That's completely understandable... decisions decisions lol.

I'll probably keep it. Just gotta keep at it I guess. It needs work though. And work means time and money. Like, I'm 100 percent positive the previous owner jumped something and came down pretty hard in it.. its pretty bad. But there's nothing reported on Carfax.

Something that you could do is sell the car and get another. One that is better taken care of.
Total the parts that you may need, and add at least 15% to the overall cost (for things like tools, unexpected parts, etc). Consider the cost you could sell your current car. Add them together and look for a car in that price range.
Unless you're comfortable with doing extensive troubleshooting and DIY's.

Something to consider.
