Need help

my 2004 rx8 motor just went out 3 weeks ago, it has 90000 miles on it, the apex seal came out and destroyed the block, i am in desperate need of advice on where i can get a engine used for a reasonable price, or if i can swap it without complications, any suggestion. Thanks

First of all, how do you know the one of the apex seals came out of its groove (which seal from which rotor), and second; how do you know the damage it caused? Because there is not a peripheral exhaust port in the RENESIS, a flying apex seal could be trapped inside the the combustion chamber - as it wouldn't be able to exit through the exhaust port - causing a lot of damage

Your car is a 2004, so it might be out of the engine core warranty already. But you can call Mazda with the VIN # to confirm if there's any time left on that warranty.

well i did a compression test, and it had none in cylinder 1, i took it out of car and took it apart and open the block up, there was scratches and indents all over the place. and the engine core ripped apart. i contact mazda they said they could do S*** for me.

thanks for responding.( it took out my cat as well)

ahhh...so you put the engine apart yourself. Well, not much your local Mazda can do now - even if you had some warranty left on that car:sad: Also, the warranty for the cat is about 80K miles, I believe. So no luck there either:sad:

Look into some of the vendors on this forum. There's a good number of rotary engine builders out there. The other problem you have now is that your engine is torn apart. Many of the builders will require you to send your engine core assembled. I guess you could put it back together. But considering that you already said the front rotor housing and irons are destroyed, I imagine there's not much that can be reused from that engine, which will increase the overall cost of your rebuild.

- unless your rear rotor and irons are in ok shape. But at almost 100,000 miles, I'm sure you would want new rotor housings anyway - even if the rear one can be savaged.

yea i check with every option before taking it apart, i need vendors at this point lol

Try Mazmart (vendor here)

Also Kevin @ Rotary Resurrection can help you.

lots of options really, not that hard to rebuild Renesis engine, u can get pre-cut seals (not good if u want BEST engine) so rebuild time is much shorter. but u said 1 apex came out and chew up I would have to assume most of the engine will not be re-usable, the other rotor might survive. everything else ... :bye:
