Need Help...
 

Hey guys I have been thinking really hard about this and its killing me. The problem is that i cannot decide what to do. I just finished my freshman year in college and i am in need desperately of a car. But i dunno if the 8 is right for me because it will be a everyday car. And over here gas is $3.95 so basically $4. I wanted the 8 to be my frist car but i dunno if it is the right move. I was thinking what would be a good substitute for a everyday fast RWD car, because i dont want a suped up econobox with FWD. If you guys have any idea of what i should do plz help me out. Thnx.

Try studying for finals instead and don't lose sleep. It's just a car.

lol im allrdy out of school, been saving up i have enough to buy and support it but dunno if its right choice.

if u look at gas prices then the rx8 is not for you, i have just accepted the fack i am getting raped, and hand over the amex with out even looking at the price.

a good first car rwd thats fast. . . .
just get a mustang, or camaro. . . gas would be a little better, and you would have money left over buying used

Test drive a bunch of cars. Buy the one you like best. Easy ...

Here's the reality on an RX-8 for a recent college grad:

The good:

1) It's fast
2) It's comparatively inexpensive for the performance
3) It's sexy as hell
4) It handles beautifully.

The bad:
1) Expensive to insure if you're under 25
2) Premium gas requirement, shit gas mileage and expensive gas - $40 fills for a 13 gallon tank, and those fills come often.
3) Dealing with all the tools who say that "such and such a car is faster. Rotaries only last 20,000 miles, etc. etc."

You're going to get one answer on an RX-8 forum - the RX-8 is a great car ... and a blast to drive. You'll love it. Is it right for you? Who cares? It's right for me.

As for gas, I'm in Washington where gas prices are nearly as high and it costs me nearly $50 per fill-up just for regular, let alone premium. That's a lot to stomach especially for a freshman in college. I've been out of college for 5 years and it's a lot to stomach lol

Keep yourself as stress-free as possible and find something (at least temporarily) that gets better gas mileage. I could suggest a Mazda 3 5-door hatchback. It's certainly not an RX-8 but I drove my friend's 3 and it's a pretty fun and sporty ride. Not to mention you'll get 25+ mpg reliably with spirited driving.

I drive an 8, my wife drives an 07 4 door wrangler. Combined we are lucky to get 30 miles a gallon. I say go for the MS3 20/28, test drove one for a 3rd car. Really nice.

If you are worried about gas, get something with better gas mileage like a tC or a Civic Si.

How about something like an s2000 or a 350z? The rx8 is borderline to gas guzzler , so if you care about gas prices you might want to reconsider.

I say hold off on buying a car. Save the cash for school. You JUST finished freshman year ... you have 3 years to go (possibly more if you go to graduate school). If you really need transportation, get the second hand vehicle as mentioned above OR an older motorcycle --> great on gas and can get you places.

When I was a freshman, I wanted the 1997 Celica SO BAD but decided to hold off --> in hindsight this was a genius move because I ended up going to dental school (additional 4 years AFTER the bachelors degree --> 7 years total). Paying for school, not having a steady income (other than summer jobs) and having car payments = bad combination.

I'll tell you another story (told to me by another member here) --> there's an 18year old kid who works at a grocery store (close to minimum wage) who bought an 8. He drove it to the bar one time and it got vandalized by some hooligans --> got it fixed through insurance so now his premiums are through the roof. He's now trying to sell his car after a few months of ownership because his job simply doesn't pay enough to handle car payments and insurance premiums.

If your parents are going to help you out on buying a car then that's great but don't forget gas and insurance will also be eating a hole in your wallet. We'd all love for you to get behind an 8 and all, but you have to really think about the future. So I ask you to really consider holding off on buying a car (any car) until you have graduated and have a good steady job.

you know what thats the exact same car that was in my mind, but i dunno that car stock is not much of a performer. I was thinking if i go that way i would want to mod it but that would be more money and more time consuming. How bout a used mustang gt, or something along that line.

Having only owned a couple Integras & from driving my wife's 6spd Acura TSX i was spoiled on gas mileage. Got my '04 RX8 last week and the gas mileage thing does suck a little. But if it was a big deal to me i wouldnt have gotten the car. So far there's too much i love about driving it for me to get down on gas mileage.
